On April 3, Anchorage residents will vote on a proposed ordinance to add "sexual orientation or transgender identity" to the city's anti-discrimination code.
Supporters say the ordinance, and the equal protection under law it would guarantee, is overdue.
Opponents say Proposition 5 would interfere with freedom of religion.
If it passes, legal experts say, expect to see court challenges -- part of a larger, nationwide struggle playing out in courts to balance equal protection and religious freedom.
Anti-discrimination laws like the Anchorage Equal Rights Ordinance bring up legal gray areas still being shaped by court decisions, said veteran Anchorage employment attorney Thomas Daniel, who is not affiliated with either side of the debate.
Employers have the right to have some sort of dress code, so if this transvestite is just some deviant man, they aren't being forced to allow him to show up in drag.

my favorite part of the commercial is how they suggest that it will be literally illegal to not give a job to someone once you find out they are transgender
Oh so the law doesn't even mention transvestites, it's just the horrible f***s behind the commercial.
Imagine if it was a black person, and the commercial said "It will be illegal for Carol to refuse a job to a n*****" and showed a cartoonish racist parody.

this law against murder and cannibalism interferes with my freedom of religion since my god tells me that I need to kill people and eat them to survive
As in "I won't hire you because you're a transvestite."?
or
"I didn't hire the transvestite because another person was more qualified."?
Because there's nothing wrong with the second one. That said "We're already tolerant enough" makes it sound a lot like "We put up with these other people, you want us to tolerate transvestites too?!"
