THIS TOPIC WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS, INCLUDING BUT NOT NECESSARILY LIMITED TO THE SHOWS LISTED IN THIS FIRST POST. I WILL MAKE EFFORTS TO INDICATE WHAT SHOW I AM TALKING ABOUT.

Bah, the first topic purged. Mom's been in town, so knocking out an ep a day has been difficult, and I guess it caught up with me :\ It's time for a new one! Here's what I'm currently attempting to watch, thanks in large part to your recs:

MLP: FiM (Ep. 14 beated)- I'm enjoying this show. I'm enjoying it a bit too much. Not every ep is a home run, but whenever I think for an instant "wait why am I watching 8-year old girl cartoons again" the next episode is friggin' amazing.

Smile Precure (Ep. 3)- I don't want to catch all the way up to the subs, so I'm pacing myself a lot and saving it for special occasions. That's pretty much the only reason I haven't watched everything available five times. So good.

Nichibros (1)- Loved the first ep. Now I gotta look up on the other site what the actual name is :\

Hidamari Sketch (3)- I watched a few eps before and liked it. I still like it a lot, but I'm looking forward to seeing an ep I haven't seen before, and it's got some pretty stiff competition in the "happy chill show" division this time around.

Akari (1)- I liked the first ep, I just haven't been in the right mood for more since then. As you can tell from this list, I am more frequently primed for happy slice of life than dark intense.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor (1)- Watched an ep, didn't know really how to respond. I'm suspending judgment until I see another ep or two.

Kuragehime (?)- Watching it with Girlbolo. No idea what ep we're on. It's pretty fun!

Fate/Zero (0)- I got a whole ton of recs and then remembered that this has been towards the top of my mental backlog for quite some time :\

Flame of Recca (0)- I have read a bit of the manga and liked it. Girlbolo checked out the first DVD for me and it's been sitting on my shelf for a few days. Need to get around to it soon :D

Secret World of Arrietty

Frick man, I didn't even know it was out. I had wanted to see it opening night with the girl, but didn't bother to check the release date, so I wound up seeing it at a second-run place with my mom >_>

That said, I fully intend to see it again with the girl, because it was friggin' awesome! It might dethrone Castle in the Sky and Ponyo as my favorite Miyazaki. The parents were awesome, the heroine was, like, MIyazaki Heroine SQUARED, and...the whole thing was just cool.

I'd read the Borrowers books as a kid, but all I really remembered was that there were tiny people who lived in your house and took stuff. I do remember really enjoying the books, though, so I was pretty HYPE.

And yeah. Due to the setting, you didn't get QUITE as much awesome scenery porn as I've come to expect from Ghibli, but it was certainly still there a bit!

Hara's freakout was AWESOME.

Some occasional lip flap issues, but a perfectly acceptable dub.

Arrietty and her dad are so cool. o_o teh ninja stuffs and doesnt afraid of anything She is proooobably my favorite Miyazaki heroine to date.

I kinda wanted a bit more backstory and development for the BEINGS, but IIRC the actual book is from the kid's PoV, so it was actually kinda neat to switch that around. Still, I wouldn't have said no to a BIT more exposition with the parents and the heart and stuff. He was a really cool kid, too.

I honestly felt the ending was a tiny bit of a downer, but that's because I am American and expect EVERYTHING TO BE GREAT FOREVER ALL THE TIME. >_> Tsundere Spiller was pretty great too, even if I secretly kinda wanna ship her with the kid instead. <_< Don't ask me how that would work. SIZE IS JUST A NUMBER.

....of all the ways to resolve that last twitch, the Celestia cameo was not one I expected. Celestia is....more comedic than expected, between stuff like that and the parasprite ep.

There was actually a lot of backlash about this. The staff for the show actually came out and said that it wasn't necessarily supposed to be a super pro-religion moral and such, but the way it was written had that connotation unintentionally. The bottom line was essentially "Take from this what you want. There aren't any wrong interpretations."

I'm not really sure what we WERE supposed to take away as a moral for that episode. I assumed it wasn't ACTUALLY a "hey religion and faith are pretty cool you guys" episode, but there wasn't a clearer message to be had, which is weird considering the kinds of simple morals that have been pushed in previous episodes.

but yeah seriously it's kinda hard not to get that impression when she's all "THEY'RE SO COOL *sparklesparklesparkle* I WANT THEM AS PRECURES" and then with the glomping at some point later >_>

Rainboom definitely is up there. I'm just impressed that it's among the best Rarity AND Fluttershy eps I've seen so far and they weren't even the main character.

Agreed, especially with Rarity (although I personally enjoyed Look Before You Sleep even though most fans don't seem to). Rarity and Fluttershy kind of got the short end of the stick in terms of episodes early on. They try and spread it out I suppose.

Except Applejack won't get another episode for around a season.

Look Before You Sleep is the 2nd most underrated S1 episode (behind Green Isn't Your Color). It's definitely one of my favorite eps. The AJ/Rarity thing is great, but the totally oblivious Twilight is by far my favorite.

Look Before You Sleep is the sleepover one with Rarity and AJ, yes? I liked that one, although it's not gonna land on my favorites list I don't think.

Anyway, Flame of Recca probably needs to go back to the library soon and it has been sitting on my shelf for like two weeks after my gf checked it out for me and I am curious how it stacks up to the manga >_> I've read...two volumes?..of the manga and had a good time with it. Dat old-school shonen.

Also dat tomboy ninja girl that I am still mad doesn't wind up with the main. At least, I presume we're not going to get a twist where that happens. I don't often ship against canon, but occasionally I get somewhat into it >_>

Kuragehime was super adorable and I am totally pulling for the big brother. Not gonna happen but I'm pulling for it :\

Utena is just...man, I don't even know. I watched the movie a while ago and it made little sense. The series appears to make only a bit more.

I thought Stare Master was a good episode. Only episode of season one where the CMCs as a group were entertaining IMO, and Fluttershy was good too.

It has been quite some time, but I really liked F/SN and 100%’d it. I have done nothing else with the Nasuverse, so I am looking forward to getting more into things. That said, I am quite hazy on the details.

well I watched Pony 18 but don't have access to my notes at the moment

It was better than expected, falling somewhere between the usual pony reactions of "why am I watching this again?" and "BEST SHOW" I do wonder why they insist on having so many cutie mark crusader eps. I don't mind them THAT much but they seem to be consistently towards the weak end of the list.

RANDOM QUESTION: How would people feel about adding Homestuck or VN's to this? They're SORTA like watching things and I am super far behind on Homestuck and also I somehow never got around to the best two characters in Katawa Shoujo <_<
