People are saying that the government doesn't catalog hispanic as a race, but I did polling for the Census in 2010. I had a *VERY* short list of questions I asked people, of which one was simply "what is the race/ethnicity you identify yourself as?"

Hispanic was a separate option from "White/Caucasian."

It's very clear that the census does not treat Hispanic as a race.

And they want to differentiate Hispanics from other people for what reason?

They consider it an ethnicity. Not a race, which is why there are 2 questions. Otherwise, what would Hispanic people answer on the race question? There is no option for Hispanic.

Once again, your argument is based on "the government says hispanic is not a race therefore it isn't,"

I am telling you that MOST PEOPLE consider race and ethnicity to be basically the same thing, and they consider "hispanic" as an equal substitute for terms like "white" "black" or "asian"

seeing how hispanic as a term isn't even 100 years old and the way you're thinking of is something that happened sometime in your lifetime? you suck at defining "forever."

also seeing how they've been perfectly fine to differentiate it when it actually matters - demographic studies or race-related studies - you suck at defining 100%. usually it doesn't matter what race he is. in this case, it does.

I would like to point out that I cannot completely dispute what I think your basic claim is here, because I did another cursory search for Sotomayor and "white-Hispanic" and couldn't find any results. It could just be because the first fifty or so results I found were all about the case she ruled on involving white and Hispanic firemen (which in and of itself divided the two into two separate categories and didn't say white and white-Hispanic firemen), so I suppose it could be in there somewhere. I wouldn't say it is never used, but my preliminary results seem to indicate it is somewhat infrequently used. I am far too lazy to dig through the entirety of newspaper headlines to see what percentages stories about Hispanic Americans also mention their race, but I know it is at least more than zero.

Ethnicity and Race are grouped into the same category such as "Ethnicity/Race"

Obviously those trying to deny that being hispanic isn't significant when it comes to public identification or being identified as a minority are in denial.

The Black Panthers calling for Zimmerman's murder are preaching about how Florida should be set on fire with all white people burning.
