Rowan hasn't done anything especially offensive, but it may just be because of his lack of screen time.

Lol, what an episode! Sounds like awful filler but I've never seen it. So tell me... what were some of the other Water/Electric pairings?

I remember Marill/Raichu and Octillery/Mareep, but nothing else, sorry.

Aw, Marill and Raichu would make a cute couple. :3

UNLOCKING THE RED CHAIN OF EVENTS!
"It appears to be their secret factory."
"A factory for secrets?!"

Score: 7/10

Looker has infiltrated a Team Galactic hideout-- but not very well, as he's found out when the episode starts. Now, we don’t learn all of this yet, so I’m going to do this review in a different chronology than the episode does for spacing purposes. Team Rocket infiltrates Team Galactic’s base as well, and decide that the International Police are less aggravating than Team Galactic, so they attempt to help Looker. They fail, and Jessie and James are captured along with him, but Meowth escapes. Looker, Jessie, and James are thrown into a prison cell in the ironworks. Why does an ironworks have a prison? Because shut up. Looker explains that Fuego Ironworks used to be a major manufacturer, but was shut down because of its excessive pollution, thus confirming that the Pokemon universe really isn't our own - imagine a major source of jobs getting shut down for something as trivial as "ruining the world." Looker knows they're making "something,” but he’s not sure what.

The heroes have stopped in Flomoroma Town, and they hear about a double performance contest in an upcoming town. They leave the town, and in a field of flowers, encounter Meowth, who's badly beat up. After he explains what’s going on, they all agree to work with each other.

Cut to Jupiter and Charon, talking about how they're recreating the Red Chain and how the audience definitely didn't just cut to them talking about their evil plans. We also learn that Cyrus has a "special plan" for Looker - and believe it or not, this is actually important and legitimate foreshadowing.

Meanwhile, Saturn and some grunts are on Mount Coronet, and find the Gateway to Spear Pillar. Cyrus is excited and orders them to get ready for his evil plans to begin.

The heroes and Meowth use the Team Rocket balloon to attack Team Galactic's base, and because the heroes feel like actually being competent this episode, they have Staraptor, Gliscor, Pachirisu, and Pikachu just knock out all of Team Galactic's Golbat in two seconds. They run into Jupiter, who looks at each hero and says the name of the name of the legendary doofus they each saw (Dawn = Mesprit, Ash = Azelf, Brock = Uxie) - she's angry that the Lake Trio "chose" the heroes and not Team Galactic. The heroes ask how Team Galactic knows about that - and Jupiter just responds that Team Galactic knows all about it, because they were the ones who were supposed to have “synchronized with the Lake Trio.” If you’re wondering how that answers the heroes’ question, don’t worry, it doesn’t. The heroes get the better of her, so she runs away and escapes in a helicopter with Charon and the Red Chain, and the heroes are forced to let her go because their priority is to rescue Looker and Team Rocket.

They quickly find and rescue them. That was easy. Looker says that his work here is done, so he continues to work here to learn what they were making in this factory. He manages to find a tiny bit of red stone, so they take it to Officer Jenny and a scientist named Scientist, who determies that it's-- boobytrapped by Charon and explodes, destroying all of their equipment. Ha, nice. It wipes out all of the International Police's computer data (and they determine this in literally less than three seconds). Looker angrily declares that he won’t let this stop him from stopping Team Galactic.

Cyrus talks about how they now have all of the things they need: the Spear Key, Spear Pillar, Adamant Orb, Lustrous Orb, Red Chain... all they need now is the Lake Trio, so he calls up J, who he tells to capture the Lake Trio for him. FORESHADOWING

As J reenters her hovership, Uxie's and Mesprit's future sights go off at the same time, and we learn their target was not J but instead her hovership. Two massive lasers descend from the sky, destroying it, and it plunges into the lake, where its protective glass shatters from the water pressure and the engines explode, killing J and her dozens of crewmen.

Wow. That was… unusually brutal for a kid’s show. I mean goddamn, she deserved it, yeah, but goddamn I think that’s the most brutal death I’ve seen in a kid’s show. I mean… lasered, crashed, drowned, and exploded? They were only missing “stabbed” and “poisoned.”

Team Galactic, however, manages to escape, leaving Gary to mope about his uselessness. Cynthia determines that Team Galactic has all of the equipment it needs to summon and control Dialga and Palkia.

Cut to Team Galactic, who are doing precisely that. Charon places a piece of the red chain on each of the petrified Lake Trio, which awakens them and causes them pain, which alerts the heroes and - teleports them into Team Galactic's lab. I like how Team Galactic doesn't even react except after Croagunk comes out of its pokeball on its own, prompting Saturn to throw out his Toxicroak. I mean, yes, okay, they also sent out Purugly and Skuntank against Pikachu and-- before anything more can happen, Cyrus calls the battle off. The heroes hadn't yet realized that Cyrus was evil, but now they do.

Cyrus declares that fighting is the most frightening product of the human heart, which explains why up to this point, Team Galactic has never engaged in any kind of fight whatsoever and pursued its goals through peaceful means alone. I love how the heroes just stand there, and Cyrus decides to tell them his entire evil plan with no prompting at all. His plan is to make a new world because the current world sucks (too many French, am I rite?), but he's confused - why are the heroes so important that the Lake Trio saw fit to summon them? He decides to hold them here until the task is completed, just in case. They surround the heroes with twelve thousand grunts, and to the heroes’ credit, they basically don't give a damn, and just break open the tanks containing the Lake Trio and attack Team Galactic head-on.
external image

There’s also a subplot where Looker and Team Rocket team up and infiltrate Team Galactic’s headquarters, but it doesn’t go anywhere this episode.

Actually, this was a really good episode! Lots of build-up and drama. I like it.

THE NEEDS OF THE THREE!
"We'll help you! We're helpful!"
Score: 8.2/10

The heroes have a shared dream in which Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit are captured by an evil shadow (ever notice how shadows are so rarely good?).

Cut to J and her invisible hovership (I still can't get over that) hovering over Lake Valor. She decloaks and prepares to drop a bomb into the lake, but amazingly, it turns out that unless you're invisible, you can't conceal a gigantic hovership, and she's spotted by Gary Oak. He calls up Rowan, who calls his peers to protect the other lakes (don’t worry, those people he calls on will do literally nothing except inform him of when they do nothing). Gary prepares to fight J, but Saturn and some grunts are behind him - they distract him long enough for J to drop the bomb, which hurts Azelf - which in turn gives Ash a massive headache. Ash realizes Azelf is in trouble and drops the spoon he was eating breakfast with - cornflakes can wait, dammit! He calls up Rowan, who tells the heroes about Team Galactic and J at Lake Valor. All of the Lake Trio send signals to the heroes, alterting them to… something. Azelf tries to fight J, but she turns it to stone and captures it, and we get the first emotion J has ever displayed other than irritation.
external image
Cyrus then explains to the audience (thank you) that if one of the Lake Trio falls, the others must appear to restore the balance - so Uxie and Mesprit do indeed appear and teleport to Lake Valor.

The heroes want to help, but Rowan tells them they can't do anything. They decide to ignore him and run out of the pokemon center with absolutely no plan, but fortunately, they run into someone who does have a plan - Cynthia. Her plan? To use this car to move toward her enemies and do something. Well with a plan that detailed, how can they fail?!

Meanwhile, at Lake Valor, Mesprit and Uxie show up to fight Saturn, who's been given Azelf. Both pokemon use future sight, seemingly on J, but nothing happens. She shrugs and turns them both to stone, giving them to Saturn while Gary watches helplessly.

THE BATTLE FINALE OF LEGEND!
"No good quotes lol"
Score: 7.5/10

The heroes free the Lake Trio, but Team Galactic disables them... and it doesn't much matter, because Cyrus has mind controlled them with his red chain gauntlet. He then captures the heroes and takes them to his bizarrely roomy helicopter, and Brock realizes that Cyrus is keeping them as hostages to force the Lake Trio to comply in case they break free from his control (by the way, when they do break free, he doesn’t bother, so I guess Brock is just… wrong). The helicopter lands and Cyrus, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, and Charon instantly see through Looker's and Team Rocket's disguises and throw them in the prison. How do they recognize them as imposter grunts? Well, the answer is, I don’t know.

All of the bad guys except Jupiter enter Spear Pillar while she guards their helicopter and the prisoners. Cynthia shows up (having seen their helicopter) and uses Garchomp to threaten Jupiter until she gives her information. Aw yeaaaa threatening people with torture - good guy style.

In Spear Pillar, Cyrus has the Lake Trio transfer their powers to the Orbs, and Charon shoots some soon-to-be portals into the air. The portals open into Dialga and Palkia's dimensions. They come through the portals and Cyrus chains them. The heroes and Cynthia show up and destroy the portal gun, but too late. They destroy the Red Chain stones on the Lake Guardians, freeing them, but it's again too late: Cyrus already has the power to control Dialga and Palkia.

Cyrus commands them to make a new universe for him. I like how Rowan and Gary watch Mount Coronet through a camera, having heard none of what Cyrus said, and Rowan, a biologist, instantly determines that the energy levels mean a new universe is about to be born. The area around Mount Coronet starts to shake, and Jupiter declares that if she's killed for the new world to be created, she's fine with that. Well alright then, I guess.

The heroes try to break the Red Chains around Dialga and Palkia, but they're too powerful to let the heroes hurt them. Fortunately, at least, the Lake Trio is powerful enough to protect the heroes from their retaliation. The heroes eventually destroy the Red Chains – but it doesn’t matter, they’re still controlled by Cyrus. How? I don’t know. The pokemon have created a bubble of a new universe, and Cyrus tells Saturn and Mars that they aren't invited to his new world - He enters it, ranting around order and emotion, and despite his betrayal, Mars tries to follow him until Saturn prevents her, reminding her that the sexiest Piplup are to be found in this universe.

The new universe bubble ascends into the air, so Dialga and Palkia hyper beam it, which causes it to expand and start engulfing Sinnoh. The Lake Trio asks the heroes to "combine your hearts as one, and please save Dialga and Palkia." The six of them rush into the new universe and use the Lake Trio's powers to free to Dialga and Palkia once and for all. They then seal off the new universe or something, I'm not really sure, but Sinnoh is saved I guess. We also learn why the heroes were chosen to see the Lake Trio: they cared about pokemoon. Really, that's the explanation.

Later, Rowan and Gary come to Mount Coronet, and they take the Orbs for protection and study. Team Rocket leaves, hoping to impress Giovanni with how successfully "they" defeated Team Galactic. Team Galactic's commanders are locked up, though we don't see what happens to Charon. The heroes continue their journey, and Cynthia looks forward to more cameos in Pokemon games.

Everyone seems to love how they used Future Sight to kill J's ship.

Am I the only one who wonders why they used Future Sight to kill J's ship rather than, say, another move? The only advantage Future Sight has is that it works later than expected, so all they did was ensure that their disastrous offense wouldn't occur until after they were captured. Why not just blast her in the face with an immediate move and thus save yourselves?

THE TREASURE IS ALL MINE!
"I love twerps who struggle."
Score: 7.5/10

Dammit, Jessie, I've already made like ninety bondage jokes during these reviews, it's just not funny anymore.

The heroes are training in the middle of a forest when Monferno uses dig, and accidentally reveals a treasure chest. The chest is locked with a voice password, so the heroes decide to take it to Officer Jenny. Team Rocket shows up dressed up as pirates, briefly trying to claim it's theirs, but even Ash sees through this and just blasts them off. As he lands, James remembers that the chest belongs to him - he buried it here years ago, but can't remember what's in it.

Team Rocket comes to the heroes and James makes the claim. The chest has a voice recognition lock, but James gets it wrong so many times that it uses a gun to blast Team Rocket off again. When they land, James still can't remember the password, but he does remember what's in the chest - something that can't be allowed to ever be shown in this world ever again, at all costs.

The heroes come across a mansion in the forest, and the butler there (without being fetched) instantly recognizes James' treasure chest in Ash's arms. He shows Ash a picture of James and his Growlithe Growlie and invites the heroes in.

Team Rocket dresses up as Jezebel (James' fiance) and a manservant, asking for the treasure chest, claiming that James asked them to pick up the chest for him. Unfortunately, Growlie happens to be staying here for the day, and instantly sees through James' disguise, revealing him to the butler. The butler apologizes, but he's bound to deliver James to his father should he appear. He sends out a Spinarak to capture James, but Mime Jr. actually wins a fight for once.

James finally tells everyone the truth behind the treasure chest: when he was a young child, he actually fell in love with Jezebel and wrote a love letter asking for her to marry him, and put it in an elaborate chest to deliver to her. Their parents already knew about his feelings, however, and set up the marriage without his permission - because five year-olds marrying each other is completely normal in Japan? Regardless, James was still willing to go with it until Jezebel revealed that she would never accept James owning a Growlithe - he would have to replace it with a Skitty. “**** that,” says James. “Imma bury this chest in a forest.”

James believes that if Jezebel gets the letter, horror will ensue. Unfortunately, the butler already contacted her using the fantasy-sci-fi technology of a cell phone, and she's coming by means of the most impractical method of travel possible.
external image
Jezebel has some goons surround the mansion so James can't escape, but James reveals that he built an escape tunnel into the mansion. Unfortunately, the butler knew about his secret escape and built an additional secret tunnel that heads into the escape route. They still manage to escape when the heroes hold Jezebel and the butler off, but James is tired of lugging around the chest and tries to destroy it. It turns into a giant robot, prompting a Growlithe versus Giant Robot battle. Unfortunately, Growlithe proves stronger than the robot, so the chest turns into a rocket and flees, amazing even Jessie with the pointlessness of it all.

Jezebel and the butler finally catch up, so James asks for one moment to say goodbye to his friends. He then asks Ash to use thunderbolt on him, so he can blast off to anywhere except Jezebel. I like how Jessie and Meowth explicitly oppose this plan, but Ash shocks them anyway, sending them off. Unfortunately, Jezebel rushes into the thunderbolt, getting blasted off with James and Meowth while Jessie lands with Jezebel's goons, who mistake her for their boss… Which apparently has no significance, and the episode ends with James unable to outrun a woman in high heels.

A METEORIC RISE TO EXCELLENCE!
“Team Rocket is a bad group of thieves who go around stealing other peoples’ pokemon!”
“True, though you’re using ‘bad’ to mean ‘good,’ of course.”

Score: 5/10

The heroes are lost in a forest again (for ****’s sake) when they see a firework in the distance… as does a wild Gible. The heroes find a field in which an old lady, Grandma Wilma, is training an Altaria to use draco meteor. This isn’t her Altaria; other trainers leave their dragons here for her to train.

The wild Gible appears, and Wilma explains that this Gible lives in the forest near here. She thinks it’s interested in the heroes, and indeed it is: it bites Ash’s and Piplup’s heads for no reason other than that its favorite movie is Jaws. It tries to bite Wilma’s head as well, but she dodges its attacks and sends it off.

Wilma starts training Altaria again while the heroes watch, and Gible shows up again, trying to use draco meteor. It’s not very good, however, and accidentally takes out Piplup. Wilma is unimpressed with Gible, so Ash offers to train Gible in draco meteor by copying Wilma’s instructions. Hilariously, despite Ash’s help, Piplup gets taken out by accident once again.

Team Rocket appears and steals Altaria in their balloon, so Ash easily sends out Staraptor to stop th-- wait, no, I was literally making this joke over a year ago. Well, the heroes follow on foot, but Brock and Wilma get left behind. Ash and Dawn can’t catch up on foot, so they ask Gible for a shortcut since it lives in the forest they’re in. Gible instead leads them to a tree of fruit, so Ash and Dawn just send out Staraptor and go ahead on their own. Unfortunately, they reach a cliff, so they’re left with no choice but climb it. Dawn falls off and lands on Mamoswine, but Ash insists on continuing… and falls off, only surviving because Gible saves him and helps him up the cliff.

Staraptor falls prey to a trap designed specifically for it because Team Rocket knew it was the most logical choice to send after them (unusually clever of them). They escape in a giant robot, and with Ash preoccupied with freeing Staraptor, Gible follows Team Rocket on its own. Gible then eats their robot, but when it tries to use draco meteor against Seviper, it fails… but does succeed in broadcasting its location to the heroes, who have by this point reunited. Just before Seviper can finish Gible off, Pikachu stops it, and Gible finishes Team Rocket off with a successful draco meteor.

The heroes depart, and we see Gible hoping it’s marketable enough to replace Gliscor in Ash’s line-up. Gotta tell you, Gible, I’m not certain.

But then it developed a new gimmick later in the same episode- one that would make a certain fathead's life miserable, and I came to appreciate it a lot more... ^_^

Also I'm annoyed that no one has ever commented on my magic disappearing signature... Do none of you have spoilers set to reveal via hovering?

I don't, I have to highlight them. I really should fix that.

GOTTA GET A GIBLE!
"Ah, how I love learning... as long it's not me being taught."
Score: 6/10

The heroes are walking in a forest when Team Rocket gets ready to attack them. Gible appears before Team Rocket actually alerts the heroes to their presence, so it once against eats their robot and blasts them off.

The heroes reach a town and Gible catches up to them. It seems to want to come with Ash, but it just eats the pokeball he throws at it. Officer Jenny appears and asks if this Gible belongs to Ash-- it runs off, and Ash explains that he's in the process of catching it, but hasn't yet. Officer Jenny takes the heroes to the town square, where they see that everything (fountains, statues, etc) has bites taken out of it. Gible admits to eating part of the square and runs off, so the heroes and Jenny chase after it.

As they run, they find Barry, who challenges Ash to a battle. By the way, Officer Jenny literally disappears between shots here and never shows up again, and the entire subplot about Gible destroying part of a town? Never brought up again.

Barry is very proud of his new bicycle, which Gible promptly eats. Barry decides to catch Gible since Ash hasn't yet, and sends out his Empoleon. Barry succeeds in defeating Gible, but in the process, blasts it off onto a tree hanging off the side of a cliff. Ash climbs down (nevermind how he got onto the cliff's top, I don't know), but falls off himself, so Gible has to save him. Gible then takes Ash up the cliff by digging up its side and letting him hold its fin, so... basically Ash risking his life was completely pointless.

Team Rocket shows up again in a new, tooth-proof giant robot. When Ash and Pikachu try to stop them, they capture them too. Ash remembers that Gible is a ground pokemon and thus immune to electricity, so he has Pikachu shock the robot, hurting himself and Team Rocket but not Gible. Team Rocket blasts off, and Ash catches Gible. Barry appears again, and since Gible is already caught, challenges him to an Empoleon versus Gible battle.

Gible simply isn't as strong as Empoleon, so, against Ash's orders, it uses draco meteor. Piplup freaks out, afraid it'll hit it, so it hides behind a tree. Fortunately for Piplup, Gible's aim is better now, and it hits Empoleon. Unfortunately for Piplup, Empoleon bats it away right into Piplup's tree. Gible still won't listen to Ash's orders, and is rewarded with a hyper beam to the face. The end.

Relax, Genny. That was the last one I have. I now have to go legally acquire the next season, which will take me a while. I just wanted to finish season 12.

See? Another guy who attempts the same thing as Khoury. Only difference is he didn't lose to it fair and square and still catch it like an assdouche.

Anyway, almost at 500!
