I thought everyone already knew that these have become mainstream opinions but I guess it needed to be made official, in order to save hipster-face you need to preface the statement as "I disliked FFVII before it was cool to dislike FFVII"

I think he's just saying the idea of hatin' on them for the sake of hatin' on them is pretty mainstream. Not necessarily more mainstream than liking them, just... not 'trendy' anymore.

Not trendy for the past... uhhh... seven years or so.

Maybe eight or nine.

I played FFVII in 1997 and many years thereafter and I still love it.

After several attempts, I finally beat OoT for the first time in 2011 and I feel rather nonplussed about it.

I got OoT and FFVII around release date too. I really really like both games. OoT has been at the top of my list for quite some time, FFVII has slowly fallen out of grace though.

I remember I had just beated Skyward Sword and was like "...that was kinda average." so just to make sure I wasn't crazy I popped in OoT and played through the game in around 3 days... and it was 10000x more fun than skyward sword, and I've beated OoT like 100 times by now. (okay probably more like 20)

Fun fact: I never completed either game.

OoT because I got bored.

FF7 because the memory card gods declared that i shall not ever get to the final disc without losing the memory card or savefile.

I got close to beating FF7 4 years ago via emu but then my computer croaked right after i chose to spare the turks.

Havent tried again.

In my expert hipster opinion, FFVII is a fantastic game. I played it when it came out and loved it. I played it last year and loved it.

I'm playing FFVIII (I know that says 8 and not 7, but I decided to go on a tangent just for funsies) now for the first time again (for the 4th time) and am finally beginning to love it (wasn't clicking with me the second and consecutive times until now, but it did the first time. Too bad I only rented it then and then it fell off the map for me somehow. Hooray for digressions, by the way! [Yeah, I was, and am, being way too parenthetical.]).

Anyway... OoT didn't interest me at all when it came out and I can't really say why. I tried it very briefly a year or two after it came out and I did not like it. I just didn't think it was fun and I thought the graphics were not good even back then. Fast forward about 4 years. I finally decided to play it for more than 20 minutes. It was fun! The graphics didn't matter anymore since they were dated so I didn't have to try to enjoy it as cutting edge. I guess that mattered somehow.

I still don't think OoT is an exceptional game, but it is quite good.

Love both games and played both a long time ago. Played OoT at a friend's house and was annoyed I didn't have a copy at the time so I used to talk a ton about it with other people until I got my copy....I don't remember how long after. I think I got heavy into RPG's because of my friend. He loved the FF series. I'd played like, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy 1, and 4 a long time ago.

Anyway, I've always loved both. Was a huge fan of ALttP before playing OoT.

Yeah, I think 8 gets a ton of undeserved hate. It has problems, but it's so engaging it doesn't even matter.

I dislike FFVII because it was a totally alright game that I enjoyed thoroughly even though I bought it in 2003, but then I came here that same year and everyone was talking about it as if it was the greatest of all-time, and I just couldn't agree with that. After a while I just hated people who praised FFVII so much that I started hating the game itself. I mean I had fun with it, but you'll never see me admit it... except here, and now.

OoT on the other hand is just fantastic in every possible way. Went into it with zero expectations (I hated LttP and LoZ) and it blew me away.

Like both games, but neither are the best in their series!

OoT outclassed by the one that came after it (Majora's Mask), while FF7 loses to the one that came before it (FF6).

As for FFVII and OoT I played both ten years ago or so. OoT is fun and decent overall. I didn't like FFVII though, but I did finish the game. It's still one of the worst RPGs I've played, but that's more because I've enjoyed almost all of them aside from a couple.

FFVII is an incredible game, easily one of gaming's finest achievements. OoT, on the other hand, is an incredibly polished game that COMPLETELY lacks a soul. Majora's Mask beats it easily, thanks to having one.

I wouldn't say completely but I kind of agree with you, MM and LA are the most inspired games in that series, that doesn't mean OoT is bad or anything though, it's silly how people responded to this topic with "but [insert FF/zelda here] is better!" as if that makes these games bad or something

I don't consider it bad, but it's not great, either. The extreme love for it has always baffled me, it seems most gamers don't require much to be happy and more complex stuff than the bare minimum probably confuses them.

FF7 is a pretty good rpg, but it hasn't aged nearly as well as its fans would like to believe. That being said, it's still fun, and I can see why people like it as much as they do; I just wasnt a huge fan of it. Granted, I also had like half the story spoiled for me before I even started the game, so that probably took away from my own experience with it.

OoT on the other hand, is still a fantastic game. It's not my favorite, but it's definitely in my "top tier" of games if you will.

Oh, and, this new and unique opinion on these games has been brought to you by Lurker #10947.
