I stopped going out of my way to do sidequests like 20 hours ago, and I am only just now at an equal level with enemies. I only recently ever saw a yellow difficulty monster. I think the game is balanced for not killing every enemy you see like I do.

Anyway, twas finals week so I had to set the game aside for several days. Technically I still have two finals on Monday but then I'm off for a week and I intend to make some ample progress.
If you're at the point I think you are, it's time to go back and do all the missable sidequests if you care about them.
Also, I don't understand how anyone can beat Xenoblade in less than 100 hours. I was underleveled the whole time and only did about one third of the quests, and it took me 130 hours to get to the credits, then 100 more to finish Colony 6 and do most of the quests.
