I wouldn't think that they would seriously make the logistical choice of isolating their children for substandard teaching, yet I've seen it several times.

generally because they are afraid of their children actually being influenced by the rest of the world, and they wish to bring them up indoctrinated to be exactly the way they want them to be.

A lot of public schools are lol in terms of education. No comment on whether the majority of homeschooling parents actually do a better job, but it'd be easy to look at public schools and say "I could totally do a better job than that."

There might actually be some parents who are capable of actually doing some decent teaching.

The isolation stuff is of course dumb, but I guess they are afraid their kids will get murdered at school, or something.

For some it's because their job requires them to move around a lot

Some families are on the move all the time, international travelers. Others want to avoid the public school system but can't pony up for private schools.

Though I won't homeschool my child, I can see how it could potentially pay off.

My very liberal roommate was homeschooled through 8th grade. I think his reason was to avoid the public school system.

I have no doubts that with some tools like math workbooks, I could teach any kids I might have better than public schools, at least through middle school. You can definitely find some good public high school teachers in a decent area like I grew up in that can make high school worth it, particularly if you take all the AP classes you can. But the content tackled through middle school in my district would be beyond easy to homeschool a child through and probably allow me to handle their education a lot more efficiently.

After a while, homeschooling seems to teach a lot more than public schools ever will.
