I know Portopia's supposed to be pretty good, but anything else?

Also, include handhelds in this.

8-16 bit, nope, though there's a few on the GBA I know of but that's 32 bit

Maybe the Famicom Tantei Club games? I only know they even exist thanks to SSBM, though, so I can't vouch for their quality.

Snatcher. Go play. NOW!

There's also a few Phantasy Star games (PS Adventure on the Game Gear, and a few PS II prequels that were only released in Japan but have fan translations).

Riviera: The Promised Land is pretty awesome imo! It has gameplay but holy crap it reeks of VN. I think there was also a Lova Hina one, but I never tried it out.

Love hina was okay. If you count things from that time period jast had a couple. Seasons of sakura I still occasionally play, three sister story was nice, and runaway city completes the trio.

Predating them all and freeware for some time now is true love. And that may be 16 bit on pc. Everything said here is pc save love hina, and may need dosbox.

Came in to say Snatcher, and I know there are some well-loved ones in Japan but I don't know if they're actually good, and they don't have translations.
