Jesus Christ, they must have not only forgotten about him, but then decided he was someone else crying for help whom someone else was dealing with and was trying to make a big deal out of nothing. That's the only explanation I can think of that doesn't involve willful torture, assuming his claims that he could hear people just outside are true.

Look, come on. In this case, it was probably just people not doing their jobs correctly and failing to notify everyone else about the kid they locked up, possibly without being supposed to. There's a lot to claim the police do that's wrong, but in this case, it was probably a lack of oversight and paying attention that caused this.

I'm just guessing, though, but I would be astounded if the DEA claims it was anything else.

Let's be fair here. There are hundreds of thousands of police officers in this country, and the overwhelming majority are good-natured protectors of the law. Some are exceptions, and this case is a rather disturbing one. But it is an exception, and thankfully, the kid will receive a sizable paycheck for his troubles.

Sensationalists tend to allow themselves to buy into media prejudice for the "big story," which is rarely representative of how the world really is.

You basically can't get on an airplane unless you get molested, and Petreus more or less admitted in front on Congress that everything is watched with no pretense of the 4th amendment existing anymore. This country is a joke.

Two things:

1. This case does nothing to support your police state claim. It might say something about police incompetence, but that's apples and oranges.

2. Do you seriously think that they "molest" every single airplane passenger? If you were arguing that these things shouldn't be happening at all, that would be one thing. But your claim is pretty much "sensationalism" down to a tee.

The whole "Police State" thing as current is only a little over the top, but its been a mentality that's been growing on me over the years.
