So... story time.

- Six months ago, I left Lumber/Building Materials because I did a s*** ton of work for only $9.10 an hour. I was put in Hardware.
- The Lumber/Building Materials department has been horrifically understaffed for months without people, and people have repeatedly left because it's too little pay for all of the work you need to do, and they're tired of doing all of the constant work that the lazy jackasses in the department don't do.
- Recently, Lumber has lost another guy.
- The guy who did the Overnight Lumber Recovery shift (10PM-6AM) quit because they didn't give him a raise.
- The guy who did the Lumber 4AM-1PM shift to get the store ready told them he wasn't doing that shift any longer.
- My manager is close to getting fired because Lumber looks like s*** constantly, is never stocked properly, and has rarely anyone in it all the time.

So now to recent times. My manager begged my best friend there who also quit lumber for the same reasons to do the Overnight Lumber Recovery shift. He was told he would not be getting paid more and was promptly fed a bunch of happy BS to make it seem appealing. (Overnight shifts are not appealing in the least, and you only do them if A) you're antisocial and weird or B) it's convenient for your current living situation) My friend declined it for the reasons of it sucking and wanting to keep his marriage from not sucking.

So today, my manager asks me to do it. He has a long sphiel that he keeps saying about how Overnight Lumber Recovery isn't that bad. During the whole thing I told him "No... No... No... No, Brian... No... I'm not doing it... No..." He also mentioned that it would be for only two months, which is a complete lie as well, because they'll never let you out of there if you willingly choose to do it. So then he asks me to do the 4-1 shift. I ask him if I'll get a raise for it and he laughed and said no. So I told him I wasn't going to do it.

Like, they expect people to take these s***ty shifts that nobody wants to do for $9.10 an hour. They're literally desperate for people to do these shifts, but they refuse to pay them any more money to do them.

Among other things they've done... they used to give no more than 25 cent raises for their yearly review. Now they only give 20 cent raises.

They brought a girl from Service Desk to Deliver Coordinator (a job worth at least $13 dollars an hour) and refused to pay her more. She left recently.

Instead of hiring people at $9.10 an hour, they hire them for $9 an hour.

Hours are cut and people are told not to come in at all, which leaves the bare minimum of people in the store on the busiest days.

I don't get it. I really don't. I would very gladly go back to Lumber if I got $12 an hour, which is completely reasonable for all the stuff you have to do. But they refuse to give any sort of raise at all. I don't get how this store and company is run.
