Had a few weird rules for time traveling, but eh. Currently in Alternate History Chapter 6. Prefer this timeline to the Standard.

Battle system started out fun, then got annoying as my skills got outdated and the encounters pile on more and more enemies and unmovable ones. Then I got new toys to play with and it got fun again.

Also, lol the bad ends.

Currently trying to get Rosch up to speed with everyone else before charging in, dude is lagging in levels. I'm just after the fight where you can steal Gafka's Ultimate weapon.

I used everybody in in turn, and I found that they each had specific roles to play. They're all great.

Stocke is Stocke.

Raynie is your single target multi-element Mage, and a damn good one at that, though later on she gets great AoE spells. Gets her magic mover skill WAY too late, but still gives her an edge over other mages. Then again, Stocke has the same move, and cheaper, IIRC.

Marco is the utility guy. He can move single panels in all directions, and sacrifice his turn for someone else once he becomes useless. He does have Spin Slash to rack up combos... but you're better of giving up his turn for someone else. Oh, and healing, but I just use items.

The Shaman early on requires a mover to activate her trap, but then she gets other toys to rack up combos (2nd best) and soon her MAG allows her multi-traps (and even Cross Star) to kill with ease. She can also steal, but I'd rather make Stocke do it.

Rosch is... I dunno. Tank I guess. He's all physical, but another guy outshines him. He does have Grapple to complement Stocke though, and does get plenty of AoE moves.

The Gunner is just great. She gets a spell that HITS EVERYTHING, and with her MAG, she clears encounters easily. Even early on her spells outshine Raynie when enemies don't have Fire/Thunder weaknesses. She even gets Marco's Trans Turn, if for some reason you'd rather not bombard things to oblivion with Magic.

The Big Guy is awesome as well. Best combo attack, mows things down with his obscene attack, plenty of move panels and AoE options.

I'm doing the side-quests for Raynie and Marco. I'm willing to bet they get something OP at the end of each one, which is largely why I'm sticking with them.

Marco's Magic Boost + Raynie's G-Fire = game.

Oh, well, character ranking, disregarding their combat use. Bear in mind I haven't finished the game yet.

Stocke
Our Main Character. A protagonist I don't feel like strangling. Then again, having save states most likely helped. A determined man.

Raynie
Oh hey, story doesn't revolve around that plot point. Neat. I like her design and her personality as well. First of Stocke's BFFs. XD the sidequest bad end.

Marco
Second of Stocke's BFF. Total bro, except for that one bad end. But that's because Stocke is not a bro. His design is kinda odd though, he looks small, and looks like he has cat ears. Stupid helmet.

Rosch
Zeroth of Stocke's BFF. Oh dear god, you have no idea how happy I was that there was no love triangle. Anyway, he's a likeable commander, even if he seemed to ask a lot of questions. He also went angsty at one point, though he had reasons. It didn't last very long though, thanks to the YUKIMURA/OYAKATA-SAMA moment though. But man... dude comes and goes a lot.

Big Guy
I like this character type, but they didn't really do anything with his backstory. Kinda got resolved just like that. Love the sidequest bad end though.

Gunner
Kinda bland, really. She's the generic example of her kind, and I loathe those characters. Not that she's bad, but I've seen it a lot. At least this time she had good reasons. She didn't particularly stick out, really.

The Shaman
She got old really fast. Still, she is a kid and all. Again, lol her sidequest Bad End (How'd Stocke escape that timeline?)

None of them are ZOMG BEST CHARACTER EVER level, but most of them are likable.

Gafka is hands down the best unit in the game.

Aht is fairly mediocre besides her traps (which are way too good), and most of the late game bosses are indifferent to traps because they're unmovable anyways.

I disagree, her traps are insane but a lot of her utility comes with Polaris and her heals, which help out the most in the big boss fights her traps are ineffective in

Most of the late game bosses aren't huge, either; there's a few exceptions, but the overwheling majority of them are movable and iirc they all use status effects anyways, so Polaris and uhh that other move that increases magic defense is extremely useful. Counting chapter 6 onwards, I counted 13 movable bosses and 2 unmovable ones <_<

Amazing damn game. Great music throughout the entire time with an enjoyable storyline, and an incredibly bad-ass main character. There were a few flaws; figuring out how to get some places to complete some side-quests could be pretty annoying, particularly later in the game. The unmovable bosses were rather lame since they just straight up removed the strategy you'd been using the whole game and turned it into more of a straight up nuke-fest instead. Also because a couple of them were just the same damn spider palette swapped. F***ing spiders. Final boss also annoyed me since it was the only non-optional boss in the game that I felt I had to grind for, and even then the battle still took me over half an hour needlessly. Some characters ended up being nearly impossible to use since they would inevitably be too under-leveled to use whenever you'd gain access to 'em. Overall a fantastic game though, one of my favorites on the DS easily.

I never had to grind and I abused the hell out of stealth/sword attacks to avoid most fights. Dunno what the issue you guys had there was. You probably could've accomplished the same thing grinding did by improving your tactics/gear setup.

My main issue is I didn't find any of the Party members but Stocke and Raynie to be particularly likable. I didn't think any of them were bad characters but none of em did much for me. Would've rather had the party have been Stocke Raynie Marco Elm Raul Garland Rosch honestly and it totally could've worked out.

But yeah awesome game other than that.

Did you have +speed in your accessory slots? That might've helped there. Like I had +10 speed minimum on each character. I beat it at 50/49/49 or so with Stocke/Raynie/Marco which while not underleveled I don't think is overleveled either.

I equipped every one I had. I don't go out of my way to level, but I use everything I have on hand for optimal efficiency. Iirc it wasn't even the boss that killed me but the pylon/crystal/thingies on the side that did it <_<

Oh yeah I think I know the one you're talking about. That one gave me some trouble too but not to the point where I had to grind. But yeah, I dunno. Might've been a lot of things then. Lack of good comboing, just weird gear setups like having a physical attack based Raynie, using a party that isn't ideal for slightly lower than normal levels, or just a lot of things.

I'm just saying unless you're intentionally going out of your way to go low level you probably shouldn't need to grind in the game ever.

Except for the optional boss. That guy is a pain. I didn't bother with him.

Radiant Historia is probably the best use of time travel as a plot point in a game. It was hard to take FF13-2 seriously after playing it.

PS those who had to grind in this game were probably the people who kept using the same team all the time. That's not how you play a JRPG. The bosses all have weaknesses to different party members.

I beat it at 50/49/49 or so with Stocke/Raynie/Marco which while not underleveled I don't think is overleveled either.

I beat the game at level 35 or so, so I'll let that speak for itself. Stocke/Eruca/Aht was my team for the final boss.

100% completed. Woo, what a blast! Man I want to quote the last line... but nah. In any case, Stocke just gained massive best character points. As an aside, only times I ever got a game over was with that boar sideboss (hits like a freakin' truck), and when the final boss lucked out and made everyone sleep, then petrified them.

I'd give it a 9.5, 10 even. Not sure which handheld turn-based RPG I liked more... Trails or this.

Oh well, time to move on. Maybe a Tactic RPG now...

I tried multiple parties and they all died on the first turn as well. Gaining a few levels meant I could barely survive the attacks, which was enough to win. Ended up finishing that fight with Raynie and Marco though >_>

i'll also join in on the Trails vs. RH as a tough one. RH can be fairly easily completed, no problem, while Trails to 100% does need a guide. Trails is notably longer, and i don't like its battle system AS much, but both are good. Trails has more fun characters, RH has better ones at the high end, with Stocke being just plain fantastic and a rare treat. the bad endings are fantastic and a really awesome piece of charm to the game, so it's tough.

The Edge of Green being so friggin' GOOD though may be what makes me like RH more. best track out of both games.

now go play the remake of LUCT on PSP.
