Board 8 > NBC had 3 sitcoms that absolutely HAD TO GO, and they kept all 3 of them.

Good to know Silverman is still an idiot.

Enjoy your no viewers for Community, and Parks and Rec. And enjoy your increasing lack of viewers for 30 Rock and The Office.

even though this is an MWC topic.

I kind of agree with it.

I love the shows, but... they're all slowly failing as shows. And viewership never goes up, it only goes down. They're already failing as a network and they needed to take a chance to get new viewers, but instead they're clinging to their tiny market in the hopes they can slowly introduce new shows while they lose tons of money.

i dunno

Actually I do realize that, that is why the moron got rid of one of only 2 excellent shows his network has had since Friends (in Scrubs) because it was owned by ABC, and therefore they made the money on the DVD sales. The other show like that (The Office) he is slowly killing while turning it into a shell of its glory.

You don't understand the concept of relative performance, do you?

Every show you just listed did better than every rookie show in the spring.

He left NBC in '09. Good riddance, too - he was an incompetent jackass.

They also have much MUCH higher budgets, so that doesn't really work from that standpoint. You think they are not paying just a little money for the cast of Office and 30 Rock?

Those two, yes. But you're severely underestimating how much better The Office does than everything else (somehow).

(Also, I should say rookie sitcom. Smash was better than all but The Office.)

Well 30 Rock is ending, I'm convinced there's no way The Office goes past next year, and I honestly believe Parks has the potential to be even higher rated than The Office was, because it's way, way better than The Office ever was.

I hope they give Community a back nine, and then let it go. 4 years is the perfect length for it, let the cast go on to even bigger and better things.

NBC also gets money for those shows from syndication and DVD sales while any new show they make gets terrible ratings. They spent LOTS of money on new pilots, and these shows only got 13 episode seasons. They are looking for something else but holding on to these shows until they find something that sticks.

Gotta love how he always pandered to the shows developed by his company, Reveille, and basically said "eff everything else." He's the main reason NBC is such a non-factor now.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh my god, I don't even know how to respond to this.

Yeah, Parks and Rec is ok, but it will never EVER get even close to Office season 2. Very few comedy seasons in any show ever can op Office season 2.

Office Season 2 was great at the time, but it's aged really, really badly. IMO, anyway.

As much research as I conduct on ratings, I don't really watch sitcoms much. What has made that show age so poorly? I mean, that really wasn't long ago at all.

Genuinely curious. I hear it said often.

I think a big reason why The Office worked so well back then is because there wasn't anything else with that style. It was much easier to forgive its flaws because, hey, it didn't really have any competition. Now, though, there are tons of sitcoms that have taken that formula and made it much better - going from Parks & Rec and Modern Family to The Office is downright depressing. A lot of the humor seems bland and pedestrian nowadays.

I definitely appreciate its historical significance, but when I'm looking for actual entertainment, I'll take just about any other single-camera sitcom over it.

Also, Steve Carell leaving doesn't help matters. He was pretty much the heart and soul of that show from what I've seen of it.

I know people were complaining before that point, though.

I remember the first three seasons of the Office being awesome, but I haven't kept up on it since then as much. I mean, I think I've seen all of seasons 4 and 5 (and liked them, but not as much), but after that?

Same thing with House, too, although I watched House pretty regularly until season 6.
