The publisher projects that Resident Evil 6 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC will sell 7 million copies worldwide. Currently, Capcom's best-selling title of all-time is the Super Nintendo edition of Street Fighter II, which sold 6.3 million copies. The last main entry in the survival horror series, 2009's Resident Evil 5, sold 5.8 million units worldwide, good enough to be the company's second best-selling game to date.
They're thinking it's going to be the best-selling game in company history. Thoughts? I don't play the series myself but that's a bold statement. Not as bold as I thought once I learned RE5 got second-best, though!
Also of interest are the company's other projections.
While nothing else on Capcom's slate of announced titles is expected to be in the same ballpark as Resident Evil 6, the publisher does have a number of games it projects will break the million-sold milestone. The new Devil May Cry game DMC is slated to launch sometime this year, and Capcom has it down to sell 2 million copies. Meanwhile, this months' new intellectual property Dragon's Dogma is expected to hit 1.5 million sold, while next year's Lost Planet 3 is projected to move 1.4 million copies.

Well, Lost Planet 2 was a 'huge disappointment' with 1.5 million copies sold worldwide, at least according to this Destructoid article citing a Capcom financial report almost two years ago.
...has it seriously been almost two years since LP2? Huh.
No one cares about Lost Planet, DmC has gotten basically nothing but negative press, and Dragon's Dogma selling that much would mean it sold more than Dark Souls which it's basically already ripping off. Those predictions are just crazy.
i don't see what's so crazy about 1.5 million for a WRPG with dragons. it's coming out on three platforms and the 360 edition comes bundled with an exclusive RE6 demo.

...and uhh... dmc hasn't gotten a lot of good press but the game doesn't even have any reviews yet, the final version remains to be played and tested, the game hasn't been reviewed - nothing remotely possible to saying it won't make those numbers has happened. what has?
bad press is better than no press at all. people know it exists. thus, people will be found buying it. if anything it could exceed their expectations in its lifetime, sad as it may be, because if it ends up being a decent game that's more than what people expect out of it.
REGiraffeHead doing that well... when looking at RE5's numbers isn't that unreasonable either. i mean they'll also do the same thing in that they'll release a gold version, but it might need a Wii U release too in order to reach that number (and it being Capcom, probably will). depends how good reception is more than anything. if it's hailed as better, expect better. that much better? not sure. but it's the right series to score that number and if they really do make sure it's great, then they can indeed put those numbers up. being their 1st though is entirely within reason. "sell half a million more than the last game that got mediocre reviews."
(still think it'll take Wii U's Gold edition port to hit that number.)
and lost planet 3 at 1.4 million is very, very much so them lowballing it. both 1 and 2 did better, and polish is all the 2nd needed really. from there it's basically monster hunter with guns. >_>; that number is honestly really, really low and the results could EASILY exceed that if they get the gameplay right. or hell, better than the 2nd.
no idea on dragon's dogma. but capcom is good with numbers so who knows.

this seems totally possible on all accounts. DMC may even be on the low end. kinda surprised they're not expecting 5 from that given that it's Capcom. this is a company that expected Bionic Commando 3d to sell 1.5.

From: Meow1000 | #022 So what is RE6's plot besides zombies
I don't really know the plots of any games besides zombies but I'm not a fan...
Anyway, my Game Informer magazine came in the other day and it had an article on RE6. I read it while eating a delicious mixture of string bean chicken and mixed veggies from Panda Express. I don't remember much because I was mostly focused on how surprisingly decent my meal was. But it said some stuff about how Chris is with some dude whose name isn't immediately recognizable to a uber-casuals like myself, and Leon is with some chick (not Ada) and then... IDK lol.
But they're all fighting in separate battlegrounds and eventually they come together. There are three groups. I think Claire leads the third? Does that sound right at all? There's also Wesker's son and whoever-the-villain-from-RE2-was... his daughter, and the GI folks were really looking forward to their interactions since apparently they carry on the torches of their respective parents but they're good guys. Or whatever.
Also Leon fights in a university at some point and zombies are back (duh) and they're going for more earlier-game horror elements while maintaining the great controls and action.
