Previous results: A. After dropping the first two votes, Battle 1 came back to sweep the rest against Rhythm of the Wind, Sky and Earth, 14-2. B. In the most contested match yesterday, Bike Race beats Underground Sewer, 8-6. C. Delightful Spekkio is delightful. A Shot of Crisis loses, 10-4. D. Corridors of Time runs the table on A Prayer to the Road that Leads..., 14-0.
9 (Brutal first match, and this is more of a pity vote since Epoch is going to get smashed most likely) 13 (another brutal match, why do I get the feeling this is going to be a theme in this contest) 6 (seriously these matches are all impossible to pick, I could go either way on all of them so far) 10 (this was the easiest match today ....)

Not changing this sig until the Bengals, Bills, Browns and Lions win the Super Bowl (10/10/10) The most American Canadian on Board 8 - #9 Bro on Board 8
1. To Far Away Times ~ Ending Theme 13. At the Bottom of the Night 3. Undersea Palace 2. Secret of the Forest ~ Guardia Forest Theme
These were really easy for me, actually. Lucca's Theme is pretty much fodder to me (not bad, but way too short). TFAT and Secret of the Forest are two of my favorites against nowhere-near-favorites. That just leaves the second match, which was still not too hard. The fair music is alright but it's not super catchy and it's lacking the emotion of Bottom of the Night.
1. To Far Away Times ~ Ending Theme 5. Guardia Millenial Fair.... close call. 3. Undersea Palace 2. Secret of the Forest ~ Guardia Forest Theme.... I don't dig those weird hums starting at :27, but everything is goes. The climax at 1:16 and the the calm section at 1:46 are simply fantastic. This piece used to be "average" within the soundtrack to me, but now it's easily in my top 8.

"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those! It could be fun! So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
9. Wings That Cross Time ~ Epoch Theme 5. Guardia Millenial Fair 6. Fanfare 1 ~ Lucca's Theme 2. Secret of the Forest ~ Guardia Forest Theme
First match is close, but I'm not partial to either song. Second match is one of my favorites versus one of my least. If Silent Light had won, I'd have to think about match four.

GrapefruitKing posted... I kinda want to do a similar contest with Chrono Cross' soundtrack (my all-time favorite), once this contest is over...
Be my guest. And my winner will 'verse' your winner. (And lose horribly.)
I thought about what other game this would work well with besides CT. CT is well-known, generally universally liked, has good music, etc. CC is a little more obscure, but there aren't really any better candidates. Maybe one of the FF games.

1 (Love the Epoch theme, but it can't beat this) 13 (Really moving song) 6 (I actually just don't like the Undersea Palace, personally) 10 (Could've gone either way, so I opted for a pity vote)
Chrono Cross, MMX, LoZ... I'll participate in every last one of them, rest assured. I've considered doing one for Xenogears as well since we're on a Mitsuda train right now anyway. This is just a flat-out stellar concept.
1. To Far Away Times ~ Ending Theme (easy match) 13. At the Bottom of the Night (also an easy match) 3. Undersea Palace (also an easy match) 2. Secret of the Forest ~ Guardia Forest Theme (I swear, if The Hidden Truth was extended to make it it cover all of the Kingdom Trial theme, it would likely be my favourite theme in the entire game. As it is, nah.)
Let me restate the question. How many isolated games would meet the following criteria?
1. It has good music. 1b. It has enough songs to make a reasonable bracket out of. 2. It is well-recognized. 2b. People would vote on it, and not just the VGM crowd.
I have a funny feeling you'd have to resort to series, since very few games would fill both requirements, if any at all. None of the games I've heard mentioned so far have a deep enough tracklist to meet 1b, except maybe Xenogears which I'm not familiar with, which kinda means it doesn't meet the second criteria. However, the Best Umineko song contest nominations went up over a month ago, and iirc they're still looking for participants, though Umineko easily clears the first hurdle. In other words, that second condition is vital.
In any event, I've got two projects going right now -- this and the classic games list. When Diablo comes out, I will probably stop being bored, so while I don't mind trying to help the group decide what would be the next best candidate, I don't intend on running it.
....wait a minute, today's matches don't quite match the order of the bracket. Guess I'll just assume tomorrow has the following matches:
Wind Scene (Map 3) vs. Robo's Theme The Brink of Time vs. Epilogue ~ To Good Friends World Revolution vs. Guardia Castle Sealed Door vs. Memories of Green (Map 2)

LoZ and FF could both reach 64 as a series but while a few FF installments have over 64 songs, Zelda would definitely fall apart individually.
Xenogears has enough tracks but the recognition might be a major issue. That said, I really don't mind running a contest for it with ten or so participants. My love for that game conquers the biggest hurdle. I would prefer hundreds of votes... But nine will suffice.

Oh hey, I screwed up the order. Go me. I have all the links in a text file that must have gotten copy-pasted wrong. We'll finish the rest of the left side tomorrow.
Edit: So just to be clear, that will be:
3. World Revolution ~ Battle Against Lavos 6. Guardia Castle
10. Sealed Door 2. Memories of Green ~ World Map Theme 2
1. Wind Scene ~ World Map Theme 3 8. Robo's Theme
4. The Brink of Time 5. Epilogue ~ To Good Friends
And I see what I did. I was trying to decide 2 matches or 4 for this round, so I initially had 2, and then I grabbed another pair and got them from the wrong spot. Not that any of you should care. Point is, it shouldn't happen again.
Just for note, azuarc can't see bolded text on his computer.
@azuarc: the first one Haste_2 listed of each in those four matches is bolded
Thanks, MP. Now if you want really weird...I *can* see the difference between bolded and unbolded for italicized text. Figure that one out.
so yeah, ok, I'll do Chrono Cross after this contest is over and both winners will face each other Chrono Cross has 67 songs if I've counted right, so I just have to remove 3 super fodder songs, like Etude 1 and Etude 2 (don't even remember hearing those in the game)
