How in the world are you supposed to discuss something like that without spoiling someone?

Doesn't seem possible.

I made a topic over on the Broadcast TV board about how 3 shows have ended this season with a similar twist (which I won't post here so it doesn't get spoiled). I get moderated for spoilers without warning, despite the topic title reading:

Apparently, the twist of the season is ____________________ (Spoilers)

(the ____ was a twist on the broadcast TV board, but I don't want to get it modded again)

Inside the topic I list the 3 shows that had the similar twist.

I contested the moderation, and was told I didn't make it apparent which 3 shows I was spoiling and that's why it was moderated.

If I listed the three shows I was talking about, wouldn't that be WORSE? Anyone who saw the topic could assume I was going to talk about more than one show. If I listed which shows, it would have spoiled all three of them.

I am frustrated.

But I didn't say what shows it happened on. There are dozens of shows, it happened on 3. There's literally no way to determine which ones it happened on.

Yeah, and if you click on the topic, obviously you're going to see what shows it happened on. If you don't want to know what shows used this twist, don't click the topic. It's not a complicated idea and if anyone got spoiled, it's their fault for coming into the topic.

But here's the thing.

There's absolutely no way of knowing if you're going to get spoiled before you click on it unless you happen to have encountered the twist in all three shows already.

So if you're not absolutely sure, don't click on the topic.

If I made a topic on Board 8 titled

Tribute to video game characters who died (spoilers)

If you click on the topic, you are at risk of being spoiled for any game that you haven't already played, and if you're worried about that, then don't enter the topic.

Regardless, the point is that it's too darn vague if you haven't seen all the shows involved and if it's a major twist, it's a bit too spoilerish to say 'hey this same thing happened on three different shows'

This is the key right here. If I'd seen one or two of the shows I surely wouldn't have expected it to happen with a third.

Different topic title was necessary here.

But it's too vague and too broad. It's going to be virtually impossible to have a topic like that where people can discuss that if they care about spoilers at all, so there's really no point in having such a topic to begin with.

I guarantee if the topic was made on Board 8 it would get plenty of posts from people who enter at their own risk.

Say the 3 shows were community, P&R, and 30 Rock and they all included a similar twist.

If I had seen the twist in community and saw the topic, I would assume it was a community spoiler topic

then i'd be spoiled on the other 2 shows.

so fair.

I think those are dumb topics in the first place.

On the movie board, I see topics all the time like "List movies where the bad guy wins *Spoilers*" (Which don't get moderated btw, because you pretty much know going into it what you are risking)

I don't see any point in ever clicking those topics, because...why? What can come of it. You might get spoiled for something you haven't seen.

Your topic sounds a bit vague though, and probably should have been deleted.

the only way to do this without spoiling is just to make the topic title the name of the three shows and a spoiler tag and then discuss what you want to talk about inside, so that only people who are up to date on those 3 shows (or dont care about being spoiled) enter

The problem is expectations. If you make a topic saying "Best plot twist in a game? (spoilers)" or "List movies where the bad guy wins (spoilers)" then everyone knows to expect spoilers from all sorts of things. But with your topic, like other people have said, you could go in knowing the plot twist for show A and expecting the topic to be about show A and then be spoiled for B and C.

My only issue is if I posted

"Wow, Show 1, Show 2, and Show 3 all had the same twist (Spoilers)"

Then it would have been worse. If anyone saw any of the 3 shows, but not the other 2, they would have been spoiled for the others. The reason I didn't show what I spoiled first was because telling what I was spoiling would have been a bigger spoiler.

I guess it just boils down to there's no way for me to make a topic to discuss this. Which sucks, because I really enjoy all 3 shows and wanted to have a discussion with the TV board about the similarities of the twists and theorize about the ramifications on future seasons.

As was posted earlier, the best thing would have been to title the topic "Wow, Show 1, Show 2, and Show 3(SPOILERS)"

That way you don't talk at all about what the spoilers are but people know that they involve those three shows and won't go into it without being caught up on all of them or knowing what they are risking.

I would have gone with 'So, regarding the season finale of these shows (spoilers for Show 1, Show 2 & Show 3)'.

That way people going in know what series are being spoiled, without knowing the connection.
