Blizzard games have their patches done before servers officially go live. Right now they release the patch early and don't let people play it to do internal testing of their own to make sure everything is fine.

This is standard Blizzard stuff. If they released the patch just at the end of the window people would be downloading it for awhile.

Umm, not letting me log in though. My game patched, said it was done. I try and log in and I get.


"A New Patch is now available, your game will close and apply the patch automatically."

Then it goes back to the launcher and tells me my game is up to date.



What do? -_-



edit: nevermind I guess servers simply aren't back up yet even though it applied a small patch.

Why the hell is it Diablo who becomes the Prime Evil? As far as I know the other Evils had their souls in the Soulstones so why not one of them instead? Or why not just some kind of super demon that's not Diablo. I mean yeah it's probably because not having Diablo as a boss would make people mad but it still doesn't make sense

It's because

Leah was the daughter of Diablo. This made Leah a suitable vessel for Diablo which is why it was the dominant Evil.

Basically she became diablo reincarnate and the fact that she also contained the other evils via the soulstone was just a bonus.

Adria and Diablo planned this 20 years ago, after the events of Diablo 1 and before the events of Diablo 2. Leah is the daughter of Adria and Prince Aidan. Aidan was the warrior who slew Diablo



Diablo had possessed the body of Prince Albrecht, son of King Leoric, the Skeleton King, and Prince Aidan's younger brother. Aidan returned to Tristram to find it corrupted by Diablo and Skeleton King, so he killed everything. You see in that video that Aidan removed the soulstone and Diablo's body returned to that of Albrecht's, and he implanted the soulstone in himself. Whether it's because he was being influenced by whispers from the soulstone or because he thought he could contain Diablo within himself, I'm not sure. But within days of him doing so, Diablo took control of his body and he became the Dark Wanderer of Diablo 2.

Before he destroyed Tristram and moved on, he spent some time with Adria, who was the witch merchant in Diablo 1. She wasn't originally from Tristram; she had come there with the purpose of finding Diablo. Adria already knew of the black soulstone and together they planned the current events. The Dark Wanderer impregnated Adria with Leah.


So it's not just Diablo being the dominant one in the soulstone. Leah had a part of his essence, being literally the daughter of Diablo. That's why she had so much power and why she became the host.to the Prime Evil. And that's why it was Diablo in control.


Leah dying the way she did was still a terrible plot device though.

Aidan even BEING Aidan was a terrible retcon though. Giving him a name? Fine, nothing wrong with that. Bumping uglies with Adria? Uhh sure that seems weird but whatever. Being Leoric's Oldest boy when at no point prior being mentioned or hinted as such? That is Bull****.

Honestly, I don't really get people who say this. Leah, through the first act and the Book of Cain, has been built up to be the successor to Deckard Cain. The fact that she died so quickly without a whimper with people saying her soul was consumed or whatever is absolutely ridiculous when she was built up to be a lasting character for the series. Why build up a niece of Cain's that he trained and taught... only for her to disappear? I think it's stupid they killed her and I'm actually worried they won't bring her back.

And yeah, I don't think killing Cain was that big of a deal, he's so old that no way could he potentially be around for a Diablo 4 down the road or anything. But that was the point of Leah. She was continuing his work. But her being gone.... completely ruins that and now killing Cain sucks.

I dunno, but I'm still assuming that she's coming back at some point for all the reasons you stated. She will come back because she must come back. Whatever machinations they decide to use towards that end will be largely irrelevant.

Have any of you actually read the Book of Cain? It's a very good book with a lot of interesting backstory and illustrations. The notes from Cain to Leah are very good and they really built up the game well.


I was actually really hyped for the game and the story with how well that book turned out. Can't believe the storytelling in that book was so good and it ended up falling so flat in the game >_>

The inevitable expansion can really only have two possible villains.

Imperius and Adria

Imperius is the obvious choice: he has an army for you to fight through, he's an enormous jackass even if he's not actually evil, and he has a reason to want to destroy humanity (people like you can threaten even Heaven, if you wanted to), and, of course, he's physically powerful and would make for a good final boss, save for the fact that you already defeated super Diablo, and it's clear that Diablo was more powerful than Imperius, so he'd need some kind of buff to be made even more powerful.

Adria is the other possible choice. She isn't as powerful, but it would be easy to say "oh, she finds the Black Soulstone, uses its power to empower herself, now she controls all of Hell, get working on stopping that.

An archangel doesn't get depressed and disappear for a long time and not show up to fight you later. Plus he's probably in Pandemonium right now. You know how the black soulstone fell from the High Heavens as Diablo disintegrated in the final cinematic? Most people think this means the soulstone fell to Sanctuary, because heaven is usually depicted above the world. However, Sanctuary isn't physically below the High Heavens, otherwise it wouldn't have been hidden so long after Inarius and Lillith created it. What IS physically below it are the Burning Hells, and the realm of Pandemonium between them. So Malthael will probably find the black soulstone in Pandemonium.

Imperius believes humanity are a threat to the High Heavens. If he has the opportunity, he will attempt to wipe Sanctuary out of creation.

Whether you think he's "evil" or not, he's tried to wipe out humanity before and it would not be a stretch for him to try again.

Malthael is totally madness evil though.
