But ultimately, I think, if it draws attention to, you know, the fact that Alan Scott is this cool, heroic guy that would risk his life for the world and for his people, and is the kind of guy that if you had to give one person superpowers, it would be Alan Scott. And the fact that he happens to be gay as well, if it draws attention to the fact that he's this great person and that gay people are great people. You know, if people are scared of gay characters or gay people in reality, just move with the times, man, and just realize that we all have to live together and you know, if you're religious and you believe in God, God believes in tolerance and love, not in hate and bigotry.

Seriously though, Alan Scott is pretty damn awesome, and I trust Robinson to handle this well, rather than as a publicity stunt. Hell, they wouldn't have even mentioned it before the issue came out if they hadn't been directly asked about gay heroes a few weeks ago at Kapow. And Robinson has written both Alan and gay characters well for years.

Just a shame his gay son doesn't seem to plausibly exist anymore!

Meanwhile, Marvel is printing out invitations to their shoehorned in, editorially mandated, and poorly planned gay wedding to hand out, while telling all the major news outlets and booking an interview about it on The View. Smooth.

Problem with making new characters is that no one will want to read them, though. It's hard to get people to pay attention to brand new characters in comics. It kind of sucks.

Plus everything about this guy just got rebooted on Earth-2, so it was the perfect opportunity to do so I guess.

Just a shame his gay son doesn't seem to plausibly exist anymore!

The new Alan Scott is in name only, and is in his 20s. Him and everyone else in the new Earth 2 book are essentially new characters.

True, but if they are going to make this a publicity stunt (And having the character kiss his boyfriend to introduce his sexuality seems to indicate) then they don't need to use a well known character.


At best nobody is going to pay attention to this
At worst the Green Lantern is going to become a gay pride symbol, which really sucks for long term fans who don't want to seem like they are fervent supporters of gay pride just because they have Green Lantern Gear.
