PSP: Gungnir - $30. made by Sting, Atlus produced. not as crazy as other Sting games. it ties into the same universe as Yggdra Union, Riveria, Knights in the Nightmare, etc. yes, there's a lot of 'em. i believe it's the 9th entry. no, you don't need to know anything about 'em. Release date: 6/12. yes, under a week.

3DS: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy - $30/40. TRU currently has it for $30. Amazon price matched it too but i think they ran out. it's the uh... EBA, FF style. Release date: 7/3. under a month now.
E3 2012 trailer. many of you may not have seen this yet and it actually shows a LOT more songs than you would've picked up from other ones! also shows it's pretty much EBA-FF. even if you weren't interested in this before give the vid a shot - it might change your mind because it... honestly looks pretty good:
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure - $30/40. 30 from newegg or gamestop. amazon will probably pricematch too down the road, but they're 40 for now. Release date: 7/10. a week after Theatryhtm. if you have to pick one, make it this.

Heroes of Ruin - $30/40. TRU again at fault here, with an amazon PM that happened too. may again. Release date: 7/17. yes, another week later. it's a dungeon crawler that can be played in multiplayer. has voice chat, you can pop in or out whenever, and there's up to 4 local or online players.

PSP: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time - $30. also known as Growlanser 4's PSP remake. yes, this came out in 2003. yes, it's getting a Vita remake and knowing Atlus, we'll get that too. yes, it's a PSP game. get it anyway. >_> <_< Release date: 7/24. yes, exactly ANOTHER week later we have yet another game.

3DS: Kingdom Hearts DDD - $30/40/55. $30 when? newegg had a sale a few weeks ago at that price point. if you missed it uh... we'll see as we get closer if others do that price point too. 55 for the LE. Release date: 7/31. ....so for the month of July, starting from the 3rd, every week had a new release. in one of the few possible combinations to go through 5 weeks in a month, it happens, like clockwork.

release date in Japan is July. we haven't had any confirmation, but i'd sooner expect September for it right now, which goes with the Fall 2012 dating.
i too thought i was gonna include it at first until i realized that it's not a global release but just Japanese what they were talking about. kinda made me sad in a way, kinda made me happy that i could breath a bit too.

also, though not a handheld, the Wii does have The Last Story out on 7/10. and Pikmin 2's Wii release in 4 days.
PS3/360 has Lollipop Chainsaw out in 6. Record of Agarest War 2 June 26th for PS3. Steel Batallion may or may not be good for the 360 but it's also out a bit later this month.
haven't hit up August which may or may not include Phantom Breaker (nobody knows) or Persona 4 Arena for PS360.

also keep in mind that i'm not getting any of them for more than $32 post-tax, so yeah. i am loving this trend of $30 3DS games. that's the goddamn sweet spot for me on these new releases.

Theatrhythm looks fun. I thought there were no battles in the game, but after watching the trailer, I think it's pretty cool that presumably, the outcome of the battle is determined by how well you do on the song.
Do I like making you poor? YES! Am I buying most of these games? YES! Will I keep this topic alive? YES! Does anyone have a good excuse to not buy at least two games listed? No.

I don't really know anything about Rhythm Thief, and the trailer for Heroes of Ruin left me unimpressed, but all the other games listed in the OP are things I will likely play at some point.
I actually don't know anything about the two PSP games either, but Atlus.
The answer to not knowing rhythm thief is to get it. It's a game by Sega and is their attempt to make a rhythm game that has a notable and touching story. You play the role of a thief in France who has a badass hat and a badass dog.
Or eba meets Layton for short.

also i *might* consider getting pokemon conquest but why would i buy the fourth growlanser game when i haven't played the first three
Well there's also Yggdra Unison (apocryphal retelling/spinoff of YU for phones and DS), Blaze Union (prequel to YU, though it's apocryphal too because it's from a different team), and Gloria Union (this one's a completely unrelated spinoff). But only numbered "episodes" 1, 2, 4, and 9 have been released (3 was planned to be a MMO or something but it got scrapped so they just said **** the numbering system).
Growlanser 4 is standalone unlike the games previously released in the states (as 1-2-3 are related and 5-6 which are a duology from the start). And it's considered the best in the series alongside the first game.

....thinking about it, i don't think we've ever gotten 1. the biggest argument to not get Growlanser 4 PSP is because you know Atlus will release Growlanser 4 Vita stateside too. but it's cheaper this way. and a series i wouldn't mind doing that for!

I'm really interested in Rhythm Thief but my friend in Europe (it's been out for a while over there) said it only took her about 7 hours in one sitting.

yeah, to clear the game would take about that long. of course, if you're actually shooting for A ranks etc it'll take quite a bit more. still should take you a good 30 or so to do that.

There are at least five tracks for each Final Fantasy from the original to XIII, corresponding to a field, battle, event, opening and ending theme from each game. There are also extra themes that can be unlocked with Rythmia points and be played in special modes; and paid Downloadable Content. The game also borrows themes from past games for menus.
