To make a long story short, I was about to finish Final Fantasy 7 (which would have been the first time I finished a FF game), but right before I was about to finally face Sephiroth, my save file randomly vanished. Like for no reason. Needless to say, I was a bit peeved. I'm sure I'll replay it some day to finish it completely, but probably not for a while. Overall, is was an exceptionally charming game. Anyways, here is my amazing character ranking.
Barrett > Cid > Cloud = Tifa > Red XIII > Aeris/Aerith > Vincent > Yuffie > Cait Sith
Move Yuffie to the top 3 and you'll have the only good characters at the top. It's weird that your save file vanished though. Were you playing on a PS3? I thought they were supposed to be perfectly fine for PS1 BC.
I'd have to strongly disagree, but to each his/her own. It is really weird your save file disappeared though. I knew it had issues with some PS2 games even on a PS2 BC PS3, but I didn't know PS3s could have similar problems with PS1 games too. It's making me think whenever I get around to replaying Legend of Dragoon and FF8 I should just do it on my PS2.
Man, I was really looking forward to Omnislashing Sephiroth, too. Dude was a complete dick. I don't even give a **** about Aerith, but killing Tifa's dad was totally uncalled for.
What'd you think of Sephiroth? Speaking of Sephiroth, watch this.
Eh, Sephiroth was alright. At first his motives didn't really make sense to me, and even when I figured out what the hell he was trying to do I still wasn't really impressed. He was pretty intimidating though, I'll give him that. I'd be able to gauge him better if had been able to complete the final battle.
And the video was pretty cool, but I don't know who those other two people are.
I like Barret but the game reaaaally forgets about him after the first disc. This is for the best, as the farther the game got along, the dumber it's plot got.
Cid going in command was like the only thing that was totally solid though.

Some Shoe guy's alt No Relation, I had this around BEFORE mass people thought Abridged = Stupid and Derivative
I actually don't mind Seph's english VA too much. I always wanted it to be the guy who does Sesshomaru's voice in Inuyasha though, but the guy they have is pretty similar.
-- We can't stop here. This is bat country. Brace for the G's, and fast heel-toe work.
Damn. My Persona 4 file was deleted randomy after about 30 hours of play and I haven't played it since... was playing it on disc with my BC PS3 as well.
That is strange for the save file to vanish since aren't those the same as the PS1classics? Well it's supposedly coming to Steam, so you could always replay it through that.
-- O brilliant blade of coldest steel, rend the infinite darkness and crush my enemies to nothing... SAVAGE WOLF FURY

The sound of the voice itself is fine, and perhaps it even fits this new age "always cool and collected" Sephiroth.
But on the old mad killing machine, it wouldn't work. It doesn't have that hint of madness Seph needs.
Did you use the Save Crystal to save somewhere in the Crater?
I'm pretty sure there's a glitch that causes your file to erase if you save in a certain room in there
I had heard about that, so I looked up where I should use the Save Crystal, but my game vanished anyways. It was strange.
On a completely unrelated note, the other day I was browsing the B8 Wiki, and I stumbled across Aerith's page. I laughed when it said she did a great impersonation of a kebab.
yay. I know I would have been pissed if I had lost ~40 hours of game time for no reason whatsoever. Good to know you can finally beat the game.
I, too, have a poor track record with finishing FF games. I think I got to the part where Cid is your primary character and then stopped. The only FF games I've actually finished are 1 and 13. Yeah, figure that one out. Though, to be fair, I would have beaten 8 if my crappy PC port hadn't crashed so often I got pissed and gave up.
