And I'm still totally bummed. I was bummed when I didn't think I won the tickets, but I got a text yesterday that telling me I got them anyways and I'm still not too excited about it. The band is Metric and I've seen them once before... decent concert, but pretty much the lamest crowd I've ever witnessed. It was probably made worse by the fact that it was a seated venue and I'm pretty sure it was an all-ages event. This one is at least 19+ at an incredible venue, but I could not be less excited for it... doesn't help that their newest album is easily my least favourite from them.

Has anyone here been to a "secret" show before? It's one of those deals where it was actually impossible to buy tickets and you had to be selected for it. I'm just wondering if these shows are typically crazier than regular ones since you have to put in some effort to get tickets.

My brother was to a White Stripes secret show back in 2006 or so that literally consisted of a single note (Though it was free, outdoors, and they played a real show later that night), so anything can happen really. I'd assume the people who actually follow the band enough to know where the secret show is will be more enthusiastic.

Edit: Here it is

Man. I don't know if I could handle a one-note show like that. I would definitely be expecting it to be a joke and for them to come back on stage and play at least a song or two later.

Never been to a secret show but I'm going to see my favorite artist (Laura Marling) on Monday and I'm nervous because I don't know if it'll be amazing or not. I believe it's a seated event but I actually like that because I hate standing.

lol wtf@ at a one note show, how the hell are those people cheering just for that

So why are you so underwhelmed by this sheep? Are you shocked yourself that you can't seem to care? Do you feel like you should want to go but can't make yourself care somehow?

That's exactly it. It's almost like I'm expecting to have a bad time although I have no real reason to suspect such a thing. It even lined up perfectly since I work virtually every weekend but I got today off (it's later tonight) and I don't work until pretty late in the afternoon tomorrow, I just feel like I should be pretty psyched about something like this.

I honestly never thought I'd need liquor, but I'm drinking for the first time in like 6 months to get me excited for this.

And it's kind of funny that you mentioned Laura Marling, Menji. She's the next show at this venue... she;s going to be here on Wednesday.

Can't really say much about the secret show aspect, but I can tell you what to expect from the show. I saw the first show of their current tour at my college. It was pretty good despite a lame northwest college crowd (and being stuck in theater-style seating), but far from the best show I've seen and frankly pretty disappointing in terms of what I expect from Metric. My friends who saw them at a music festival that weekend thought it was a pretty low tier performance as well. I do feel like several of the songs they played were much better live than on album; Breathing Underwater and The Void in particular. The lighting helped a lot with that too. I was overall a bit disappointed with the concert though; I hadn't seen Metric live before but I've seen videos of previous live performances and I was let down by the lack of crowd interaction. It was also a pretty short set, especially after the 45 minute long sound check. They didn't play any old songs either; it was Synthetica straight through, with 2 Fantasies songs mixed in, and an encore of 2 more Fantasies songs. The encore was much more of what I was expecting from the show with some awesome soloing and extending the hell out of the songs.

Hmm... "disappointing" is probably how I would describe my feelings about the first time I saw them live. I remember listening to Fantasies for the first time and buying the tickets to the show no more than 15 minutes later... still one of my favourite albums of all-time. But yeah, I was not impressed in the least by their performance. The highlight was probably the acoustic version of Combat Baby which I can honestly say brought me close to tears. I'm basically listening to Synthetica on repeat right now to get more familiar with the music before I head out, but I'm happy you mentioned Breathing Underwater because it's one of the few tracks I enjoy on the album. Clone is easily my favourite, so I'll probably be satisfied if they play that.
