I used to react more strongly against feminism until all this Twilight/Fifty Shades of Grey stuff started. Now I'm not so sure. It's like so many women want their lives to revolve around a man. Lol beta females.

At the risk of going into alpha/beta debate territory, I'm always skeptical about extrapolating feelings people have from preferences in fiction. I love Harry Potter, but that doesn't mean I want to be a wizard.

Scientific evidence shows that women prefer to be sexually submissive.

Seriously. What the hell.

I would have used something like horror stories as an example since I don't want to be brutally murdered or murder anyone myself.

Either way, it is quite fascinating how those books have seemed to cut to the core of the female fantasy. I know a lot of omen who I consider to be pretty smart who despite knowing how terribly written they are, remain compelled to finish the books and guiltily enjoy them. I mean romance novels have existed forever and I'm pretty sure they've always been similarly terrible... but it seems that those two series have become more popular than anything written in the genre before for reasons I'm not sure I understand.

lots of problems with the writing as an article (and i don't really understand the spin of 'lots of women are moving away from feminism' when it's literally just one woman) but it's a compelling story and a good one

the topic title is a totally empirical observation - my main point in posting the topic was to share an article which I found interesting.

it is true that the notion that women biologically want to be more "maternal" in nature - nurturing, etc., not dominant - is gaining more mainstream acceptance. The show "Girls", for instance, could not have been as successful as it is now ten years ago, just because it's such an honest show.

wanting kids is more fashionable now than it used to be.

I don't think many feminists would tell a woman she shouldn't have children. Feminism states that women shouldn't be expected to have children. There's a world of difference there.

The feminist freedom to not have children has coincided with the increasing economic and ecological pressurse to not have children; the two are not, I think, directly related.

Further, I would point out that even if women were increasingly rejecting the word "feminism," they are not rejecting the idea as it would be properly applied.

You ask a woman if she is a feminist, and she may say no, but if you ask her if she agrees with an idea that could be accurately described as a feminist ideal, and she will likely overwhelmingly say yes.

That was a pretty interesting article. Not sure why the hell people are being "lol daily mail."

Maybe Daily Mail is a terrible news source, and that's kind of interesting to hear. Don't see how that has anything to do with the contents of that article considering it who it was written by.

I just have to say that I fully agree with this sentiment and this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I've learned to stop linking to anything Fox news because all the posts are "LOLOL FAUX NEWS!!" even if the article is just a basic statement of indisputable facts that are also being reported by every other news organization on the planet.

Usually I call people out on that crap, but they rarely listen.

Also, the Daily Mail literally supported Fascism in the '30s.

No, that's not a joke.

And? TIME Magazine literally gave Hitler the Man of the Year award. These things happen, and it's silly to try and question the credibility of a magazine based on something that happened eighty years ago. Granted, it doesn't seem like this publication is worth taking all that seriously most of the time, but on its own merits, the article was fine.

So who will be the first one to go 'Lol Vincent' at this post or 'XFD are you kidding me l0s0r'

Alright, let me explain to you why we all act so extreme on this board, and it's the same reason you have been coming and will keep coming to this board for years.

You can't find it anywhere else. If you want a calm, "nuanced" debate, go talk to your coworkers or some random guy on the bus. If you want to talk about typical, socially acceptable, mundane topic, go talk to your neighbor or classmates or something.

There are so many places for you to find your precious nuanced debate. But there are few places where you can find people who will debate with you to the most extreme point, with no regard for tact, dignity, friendship, emotions, or any of that other stuff that stifles everyday discussions. While you might say that you can find this sort of discussion anywhere on the internet, only b8 has people who are actually intelligent and can back up their stances with facts and logic (around 50% of the time, at least).

So basically you subconsciously crave the aggressive discussions we have on this board because you like having your viewpoints and beliefs challenges, and being able to defend them

Not really. I haven't had a discussion here for a year or more now. I, and probably many of the people who do the same, just come in these topics for a laugh and make some kind of semi-witty statement about something not relevant to the topic most of the time, simply because if you try to have a decent argument here there will always be people here that go 'yeah lol well you're a bad user' or 'XFD is this guy serious'. And a lot of the time those are users I even like.

I come here for the people I like and I USED to come here for some interesting discussions. Now it's all just slogans and passive aggressive posts in the trend of 'dude I know you're smart SO WHY ARE YOU BEING SO DUMB RIGHT NOW' just because they don't wanna offend part of the community here. Seriously, that happens in every single of these topics and it's pretty baffling. If you even say something like 'not all feminism is bad' or 'there are a few social issues that I think liberals are right on' or the more recent 'I don't believe in God' someone will reply with 'beta', 'lib8eral' or '**** ATHEISTS SAY LOL' even if your stances are completely not extreme. It's become so black and white that I've seen plenty of users that used to debate things just disappear from those topics and only the ones that discuss for the sake of discussing remain. They will never change their viewpoints ever or admit that they're wrong on some level.

Great article. Young women should heed this advice before it's too late. Having a career and all is awesome, but, if you are sacrificing your (potential) family for that, you'd better have truly made up your mind about it and not just start crying and hating your life when it's too late.

The reason I keep coming back to B8, despite being in the "it's not really enjoyable anymore" camp, is because at least on GameFAQs it's easily the lesser of several evils - there are plenty of intelligent users here and the level of activity is still reasonably high. Other boards are either completely dead or they have users posting on them who... yeah. The thought of hanging out on Current Events or something every day is pretty depressing.

I do feel its worth notingthat women's sexual preferences don't really reflect how they want to be treated socially.

Women view themselves as complex and like most people want thesweet caring husband who can then turn around treat her like a ragdoll behind closed doors, while shes making bank at her own career she loves as asmart and independent woman.

Which hey if i were born with lady parts id probably feel that way too.

I mean look at this, who wouldn't run away from this board with horrible crap like this? Gandalf doesn't even show off anything great as a wizard, his inner power comes from being a maiar. HP wizards a lot of great stuff, and if you're worried about saying things well train and become a great wizard like dumbledore or voldemort and you can use spells without incantations.
