It was 4am, they had barely started talking, and then Tony came outta nowhere with way too much ****ing energy at four in the morning. Maybe if there was an actual approach down a path and not an ambush, maybe. I think they did pretty good, especially if you consider that an actual conversation the group was having a camp.

Seriously, Tony, you need your rest. Laying your head down to sort through all the **** you stir up that day and decompress helped your social game IMMENSELY. From what we saw, he couldn't sit still once and just kept going and going and going and going.

GO HOME and wash your ass.

Yeah, this is pretty accurate when it comes to him. Plus, this premiere sort of reinforced my thought that part of why Tony made it really far in Cagayan was because Trish was reeling him back in and calming people down.

The narrative was Sandra vs. Tony because that was the reality of the situation. It was two power players lining up their pieces. But rather than give us two episodes of blow-out votes with the only drama being whether Michaela's attitude turns people off, they hid the fact that Aubry was the back-up target. The reality is that Tony was too frantic and pissed people off to the point where his physical strength became a liability.

Guys, I did a little dance when Ciera went home. But now I'm also really sad about Tony.

I have one tiny little gripe here. Why wasn't it a tiny bit more obvious that he was going home? Maybe just to mess with someone like us watching the edit? You lose the ability to call this great on Sandra's part because you don't get the scene of her flipping Malcolm, Aubry, and Caleb unless they were never together in the first place.

I saw the idol and my first thought was "Captain Cutler from the first season of Scooby-Doo." That was a big part of my childhood, after all.

Yeah, the edit had me pegging Sandra going home even though Tony seemed resigned to his fate. Sandra's won twice by ensuring the target was someone else every single vote. You don't "later" somebody with her playstyle. That's exactly what she wants! I thought the likes of Aubry, Malcolm, and Varner would have picked up on that when a dumbass (Caleb) knew that Sandra needed to go!

Needless to say, if Sandra survives her first Tribal Council on her new tribe, there's not going to be any doubt left as to how great of a player she is.

Sandra surviving the first two tribal councils despite being a physical liability AND a huge target truly speaks to how great she is at this game.

Regardless, Sandra vs. Tony was one of the greatest episodes in recent memory.

Just rewatched this. Caleb was mostly used for this purpose -- there's scenes of Tony talking to Caleb, and you see Sandra push down her strategy on Hali and Troy before they go and talk to Caleb and Varner. It is very heavily implied both sides were campaigning against each other, you don't need to show everything to understand they both wanted the numbers and talked to everyone to make it happen. Aubry's vote came as a result of Tony sticking with what Sandra told him, which he had a confessional about cautiously accepting. Clearly Sandra vs. Tony was a more interesting narrative than Tony's boot vs. Aubry's throwaway boot, which I think was the correct decision considering Aubry obviously wasn't going anywhere if her name just happened to pop up when Tony walked in on a conversation. It's understood Aubry was tight with Tony and thus having her as the alternate boot made sense. Note Sandra voted Aubry precisely to ensure that worst case scenario, they'd either tie it or send Aubry home.

I watched Ciera's final words on YouTube this morning. Nothing special there. She just says they voted her out because they "respect her game and thought she was a threat." That's not wholly untrue, but some of them voted her out because they don't respect her game. It seemed to vary from person to person.

• Caleb voted for Ciera and said that she should have never named him as a target.
• Michaela voted for Ciera and said that honest people don’t play with stinky people.
• Tony voted for Ciera and said if anyone appreciates aggressive gameplay, it’s him. But Ciera’s timing was off.
• Ciera voted for Michaela and said she’d rather play with the devil she knows than the devil she doesn’t.
• Troyzan voted for Ciera and said he was voting with the majority.
• Sandra voted for Ciera and said she would have rather had Aubry go home, but Ciera wanted to split up Tony and Caleb.
• Varner voted for Ciera and said, “You wanted fireworks, boom!”
• Aubry voted for Ciera because she went from 0 to 60 too fast and didn’t know the terrain she was on.
• Malcolm voted for Ciera and said he had no interest in playing with her.
• Hali voted for Ciera and said she talks too much about other people in camp.

So while Michaela, Malcolm, and Hali didn't respect her, it seems like Tony, Varner, and Aubry respected her for at least trying.

I think this season is going to be interesting in that people aren't going to want to make a big move until merge time because look how it worked out for Ciera and Tony. Imagine getting a merge episode that's two hours because every single player is trying to put their name on a big move all at once. When Probst compares it to Jaws, I think he means it's going to be relatively calm for a while, then BOOM!

It's going to be fantastic. I can't wait to get back in full in-season mode!

Why did they stop releasing full voting confessionals anyway? I've always heard it was because of Sash and Jane, but that just seems like bulls*** to me. Why would two idiots more than 10 seasons ago have ruined it forever?

Last season they did it for was Nicaragua irrc. Jane and Sash seem to be the main reason since they had to edit Jane's confessional down anyways. I figure they decided to not take the chance of somebody doing something like that again and to just not upload them anymore.

Much like the Rite of Passage, they just didn't see the point in them anymore.

Production really seems to hate Nicaragua so it wouldn't surprise me if they let Jane and Sash ruin it forever.

Production value feels like it is up this season. The set, the music, the lighting. It feels really good.

This Tribal Council set is one of the top 5 of all time, definitely. I don't even remember last season's like I do the two in Cambodia, but wasn't it in the same place?

Other great Tribal Council sets include the pagodas in Thailand and China, the pirate fortress in Pearl Islands, the shipwreck in Cook Islands, and the nostalgic Australian Outback set at the top of the freakin' waterfall. This season's lighthouse is pretty damn awesome, to be honest, and fits with the season's nautical theme.

The army base feel of Palau's was great, yes. Also they used an actual Mayan ruin in Guatemala, which was pretty cool too. As is the treehouse in Heroes vs. Villains.

Game Changers is the best Tribal set in years. It feels like all these pre-HD seasons we're talking about in terms of how well-built it was. I wish every season still was like that. No more of the bland sets we got all the time from 21 to 30, though IIRC Blood vs. Water's was pretty neat.

But one thing I have thought of is the dichotomy of Tony's supposed alliance. He wanted to repeat the same thing that won it for him last time by creating the same kind of group he flourished with in Cagayan.
Malcolm is the LJ. Physically strong, strategically and socially savvy, extremely likable, and visibly threatening.
Queen Sandra is the Chaos Kass. The unpredictable one that relishes in pitting people against each other and sitting back and watches. The snarky confessionalist. The one described with an adjective.
Aubry is the Trish. The one that's very direct with you. The one capable of putting fires out and keeping wishy-washy people loyal. The glue holding the group together.
Caleb is the Woo. Physically strong, blindly loyal, and dumb as a rock.

Who was the Jefra? Hali?

I so wanted this alliance to work. I don't like Caleb but the other four in an alliance together? YES PLEASE!

Sucks that it didn't work out because Tony decided to open up the Spy Shacks, distrust Sandra, and try to force her to tell Troy no. Sandra might've been planning to tell Tony later that Troy wanted him out, but Tony ruined any chance of that happening. He admits that he goofed.

This village scene is one of the THE funniest scenes in Survivor history. You've got Rupert stealing shoes (and Jon just willingly accepting stolen shoes from Rupert), you've got the shopkeeper trying to steal Trish's eyes (with Sandra commentary), you have Osten telling the girls to flash their boobs to villagers, you have Osten selling his clothes (and SOMEONE sold a single shoe to a guy), you have the Morgan tribe's UTTER ineptitude in stark contrast to the Drakes buying like, EVERYTHING. This f***ing scene...so good.
