Looks like you are able to move in 8 directions and as a result the only command-based things you can use are up+down and left+right. He can use scrolls and items for sure. I didn't find any spells but that might have just been bad luck, I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed under those same limitations

Seems like he should be a very strong character with literally double the movement options on every turn, especially considering that only a few monsters attack diagonally. You can attack diagonally and all the different diagonal things work, like throwing knives/spears, rolling barrels, the effect of the wand weapon. You can set familiars on diagonals, not sure if other characters are able to or not?

Yeah, you can't use spells. You can use bombs and items but that's it. (No throwing weapons either, no pack/holster etc.) It's crazy. I've been trying a few runs and I think I can probably set a really nice time but I die because I try to go too fast. I'll probably aim for a sub-7 or so.

A character that moves only diagonally would actually be completely impossible - consider bishops on a chessboard, who cannot switch between black and white spaces, ever. You would be almost completely incapable of switching parity (aside from wind mages and bounce traps) and would sometimes become unable to reach the stairs.

Oh, I guess you can't throw? Other diagonal projectiles work.

If he were -only- able to move diagonally it could work like boots of leaping and let you switch to the other side with a command

Yeah, except that would rob you of yet another button combo. You need that item and bomb pretty bad!

Damnit, 6:15 Diamond was only good for #11 on the leaderboards. I had some opportunities at sub-6's and one opportunity at a sub-5 but botched them all. Very sad. Really wanted to get a good time in before bomb charm gets nerfed into the ground, because it's broken right now.

Being able to move diagonally means you can switch parity without any items or tactical digs, that's pretty strong too

Do ranged weapons count each diagonal for range? So you could hit something 2 diagonals away with a spear?

Yeah, diagonal attacks adjust in the way you think they would. He only gets weapons that would make sense to attack with at diagonals - dagger, spear, longsword, rapier, bow, cutlass, harp, staff are the only weapon types he gets.
