So that class is actually completely terrifying and half the people who planned on taking it are bailing

It was Japanese Linguistics in Sociocultural Context. Gonna have to explain something beforehand: Keio's Exchange courses are divided in two groups (okay technically 3, but the 3rd is research program for grad exchange students like the Singaporean girl that bumped into me and Nio last month).

Anyways the two, KIP and JLP. KIP = English, JLP = Japanese language classes.

This class is a KIP class, the course description even has a comment at the bottom, "Prior knowledge of JP linguistics is not required, however some familiarity of Japanese is an advantage." As people would expect of a KIP course!

Buuuuut class starts and it turns out to be expected that everybody knows Japanese, first task is "translate these sentences!" in full kanji and whatnot so lot of people are like wtf I don't know any of this. From my experience most exchange students here haven't taken any JP classes so it's really bizarre. After putting the sentences up she started calling people forward for 1-on-1 interviews which started out asking people what their JP level is and then she'd be like "huh? you should have N2 to handle this class"... which is REALLY wrong as a KIP course. JLP courses require you to assess your level, KIP doesn't. Prof mentioned before though it's her first year so uhhh yeah seems like a major "oops" and people are terrified and dropping en masse.

By the time she got to me I think she's been realizing the situation (... her eyes looked a bit red at this point) and with my turbl nihongo she was saying I can manage. It's just quite a major mess of a situation since this is the last day of course shopping and the class hardly even did anything, she just put up the sentences while doing interviews the whole class so nobody has any idea what's going on.

I'm uh, gonna stay... seems like quite a roll of the dice though urgh, but I do want something to help refresh my nihongo skills and this seemed like a good course to.... but augh terrifying, if I fail one class then my whole year is basically a fail despite having the best grades of my uni life so far.



As a completely different change of pace though, the next class is the most complete bull blow-off class yet lmaooo (okay not as much as the Arts Workshop but that's impossible to beat). It's a Culture of Sports, Health, and Longevity in Japan & Other Countries, the first quarter of class he just talked about himself, showed pics of his travels (including video of cute pish in Pulau Sipadan~), then had us introduce ourselves among neighbors and then to the class..... for grades he basically talked about 2 presentations which is the best part. 1st is presenting about your favourite activity, 2nd is about your hometown.... like seriously?! It's like grade school material! I love it. <3. And that was the class.

SO. Otaku, Human Engineering, and Health classes are easy enough. Gender class... is tricky, final paper is a bitch but I can handle it. Religions in Japan was that but more complex, so I'll stick with just Gender... Linguistics is a terrifying mystery that I'm committing to push through. Planning JP Art History... but this week's class was cancelled, so uh ?????... but it's art class so how rough could it be... but I gotta find out if it's cancelled entirely or just this week.

anyways today my incompetance lead to a terrifying mad rush to school, turned out that course registration period ended in the morning at 10am and not the afternoon like I assumed, since I still had course shopping up to the latest period yesterday so I couldn't do it then, and friday I have a 10am class......... then noticed an email that said if I don't hand it in by 1pm I can't get any credits. Made a mad rush, didn't get in until 1:45..... but I was fine. Phew. God damn.


At least I'm on my first 4-day weekend now... and my next class day, Wednesday, is also Kyary concert day so I'mma have to ditch my one and only class halfway through lmaooooo... I actually ditched this prof's class last year to pick up nio from the airport in November, so I clearly can't use the excuse I made then again.......... oh well shouldn't be any trouble

so today I was on video call with gbro again catching up on our shows (Saul & iZombie today) leading me to some totally legal website I could name but don't want to but it was down for the moment

but like as the page was down it went to the cloudflare "host is down" error I've seen a number of times from different places, but I finally thought "hey does cloudflare do" and googled... and made an account and moved over my DNS management through it

long story short I now have free SSL certs for my site and logfaqs awwyeah, no more annoying "website is not secure!" warnings on my gnet login page

and also I noticed a page mentioning websockets so I'm like ohshit can I do websockets now I must find out

websockets would certainly help with making WebGL games with actual online multi
