Because apparently one way randomly gets you modded. This weird-ass system. The reviewing mod suggested JP instead, but that's also the abbreviation for Jurassic Park.

No, that would be the more offensive one because it sounds like a slur when you try to pronounce it with a certain vowel.

Holy shit, an old racist term gets moderated on this website. Fucking amazing.

Hadn't even heard of it as an old racist term. It's like they're digging up stuff people haven't used in a racist way in 50 or 60+ years just to have something to mod. tbh, the only one I knew about was an even older one that was considered offensive which was a derivation of Nippon, although even that one I still don't get *why* that would arbitrarily become offensive in the first place.

Because it was commonly used as a pejorative, as was the abbreviated form of "Japanese". There was nothing arbitrary about it; it was just a natural evolution of usage.

Then, in theory, isn't even the term "Japanese" offensive because it still carries those negative connotations?

Your ignorance isn't an excuse.

This is a learning moment. Stop whining.

No, the point IS that nobody fucking knows it. A thing can't be offensive if nobody knows to offend with it or be offended by it. If you have to dredge up some grasping term from 50+ years ago where nobody pays it any heed, then there's no issue with it.

As for "a learning moment," what exactly is there to be learned? That literally anything a person says is open to moderation because of something not in use anywhere within decades possibly has an old, archaic, and unused meaning? If so, that's a terrible lesson.

Responding with some vague exclamation rather than actually providing a rebuttal is what people who lose arguments do.

I don't really see what I'm supposed to say to "win". I went to school and learned about WW2 and internment camps.
I guess some people didn't? I don't really see how I'm losing an argument when the excuse is "I didn't know x was bad so I shouldn't be punished."

It is commonly known that that abbreviation is a racial slur.

However I'd argue that nobody uses it that way and nobody takes offense to it anymore. I see no issue with Gamefaqs taking a side on this one, and this time the side of caution.
