pokemon amiibos have no secondary functions other than the normal "Train a CPU in Smash Bros" and the generic "use a random amiibo to get random items" thing in various games

usually Amiibos are basically physical DLC that might have multiple uses across different games

Super Smash Link can unlock a costume in Mario Kart 8, a weapon in Hyrule Warriors, an arrow refill in Twilight Princess, and Epona in Breath of the Wild, for example

but not Pokemon Amiibos

AFAIK, the only Pokemon game that takes Amiibo is Pokken

IIRC, Pokemon fall under the "Use a random amiibo to get a random item" thing in Pokken

they're no special than any other amiibo in that game

The Pokemon company are dumbasses for not seeing the potential money in Amiibo.

Breath of the Wild made once common Amiibo skyrocket to near impossible to find in store and crazy expensive on the secondary market. Imagine what would happen if Sun/Moon had Amiibo support.

But they would've made plenty of money off of a Sun/Moon Amiibo set, consisting of starters, legendaries, Mimikyu, etc... At least I would imagine so.

They would have gotten rid of all those Jigglypuff and Mewtwo pegwarmers if they had decent support as well. More valuable shelf space for new Amiibo.

Sure, but that's not related to the secondary market spike. And they chose to release their own figure set, which they get more of the profits from.

The high secondary market are more of a sign of demand than anything.

People are willing to shell 50 bucks for a loose Sheik these days, and that she was a pegwarmer a year ago. Nintendo could make a new batch of Shiek (assuming they don't make too many) and people will buy them like hotcakes just to get the mask in BotW.

I think the point hes trying to make is the popularity would've spiked and people would've bought up all remaining peg warming pokemon amiibos

of course they don't make money off of second hand sales, but they sure as hell do with retail purchases. That has to dry up first

Speaking of unreleased amiibos, apparently when FE Echoes got data dumped, it revealed in-game portraits for both male and female Corrin amiibo units.
