there is basically a huge attack on youtube right now by traditional media outlets. we might be witnessing the collapse of youtube if things do not turn around quickly.

Probably just random shits. You don't even really need to do anything to get videos taken down on youtube, as I recall.

Are they actually protected under fair use? I'm not arguing that they aren't but it seems a bigger question than most fair use cases. They are using hours and hours of animation from a TV show are they not?

wall street journal seems to be one of the biggest ones. three of their reporters spent hours going through hundreds of pewdiepie videos so that they could take every time he has ever referenced nazis or hitler and send them to disney, youtube, and his other sponser to try and get him fired. disney dropped him and he lost his show/network, but youtube did not get rid of him. you PROBABLY heard at least something about this story.

it actually keeps going. WSJ continued to attack not just pdp but youtube in general, trying to basically financially cripple the website.

so basically after this they found a few racist videos on youtube by some obscure users that nobody really knows or cares about. long story short they took screenshots of ads being played on the videos and then started sending out mass messages to a bunch of different companies; basically saying "did you know that youtube is promoting your ads on racist videos and hate speech????" pepsi I believe was one of the first major companies to pull out of youtube and since then ad revenue has absolutely floored. youtube is having trouble selling ads to any businesses which means content creators are not getting paid much either.

there are some other traditional media outlets that colluded with WSJ on this project but I'm too lazy to look the info up again now.

so basically the way the dominoes play out here is;
1. companies stop buying ad space on youtube for fear of being associated with racist videos
2. youtube can no longer sell ads, they can no longer pay their content creators
3. if the situation does not improve the content creators will naturally go somewhere else to a platform that will pay them

the connection between racist videos and ads is tenuous at best, and the PDP thing was obviously clearly fabricated. for this reason I do not believe the plan has much to do with censorship or trying to silence specific youtubers. rather, it seems to be a plot to financially hamstring youtube because Legacy Media is started to feel threatened by the existence of a platform that is exponentially more popular with the younger generation. they are obsolete, have no idea what to do to stay relevant, and so they are lashing out. the reason they started with PDP is simply because he is the biggest name and a huge source of income.

I can't say with confidence what has happened to DBZ A, as this sort of thing has happened to them before. but it does seem oddly suspect that they would get blasted again right while this stuff is all going on.

like it's been happening for maybe 1-2 weeks tops and we're still right in the middle of it.

SupremeZero is right, here. it is probably not Funimation doing this. the way the youtube system works pretty much anyone can report you. and since it's largely automated all they need to do is coordinate an attack to get three strikes to go through on you quickly before the issue can be resolved. once three strikes are on your record your channel gets blasted at large.

so basically even if a channel has done nothing wrong you can still get their channel frozen in this fashion. plan a co-ordinated attack to mass report their videos. make sure that at least three instances that count as "strikes" go through the automated system before anyone has time to manually review and resolve the issues. once the three "strikes" are on record an automated system then takes all of the vids down and freezes the channel.

Didn't they only do this after he literally payed people to hold up a sign saying "kill all jews"? Seems like that warrants a closer investigation of his content.

the story is a bit more complicated than that. so... I'll try to summarize it as best I can because honestly it's not an issue I care that much about one way or the other. but I also feel like if people are asking about something and I'm informed on the issue I'll try to answer.

WSJ and other outlets actually tried an attack like this in the past before and it didn't work, basically releasing articles saying that felix was promoting hate speech and saying harmful things when really they were just taking his jokes out of context.

felix replies by making videos mocking them and continuing to make even more offensive jokes just because he knows it is pissing people off. things basically continue to escalate as the animosity between the two builds. there is one video where he actually says something along the lines of "gotta be careful or the wallstreet journal will take this one outta context *does a nazi salute and then laughs about it*"

WSJ then proceeded to take that exact clip out of context and send the clip of him doing the nazi salute as one of the things to disney attempting to get him fired. which is actually admittedly some pretty clever trolling by the WSJ.

the "kill all jews" thing is something where after the fact he did say he probably went too far, but basically as the situation between him and WSJ kept escalating he kept thinking of more and more outlandish jokes to try and antagonize them. I mean it takes about 2 seconds of scrutiny that he did not pay people to hold up a sign that says "kill all jews" because he actually thinks all jews should be killed. but this is the way they are attempting to twist the story in order to cause him to lose his job. then again at the end of this video where he explained the situation and talked about probably going too far it ends with some kind of weird hitler montage so it's also really obvious that he's not going to stop provoking the WSJ and others.

from my perspective at least this seems to be a free speech thing, not a nazi thing. PDP is not against jews or in favor of nazis. I think to believe that is honestly pretty absurd. he's just really immature and has a sense of humor that never really grown into adulthood with him. once people began attacking his speech and attempting different ways to shut down his platform (essentially to censor him) he starts ramping up the content which offended them to even more extreme levels as basically a form of protest. it's basically like when you tell a child not to kick a pine cone, and so they kick it again and keep kicking it just to intentionally frustrate you. the kid doesn't hate pine cones, he just doesn't see any reason why you're trying to tell him not to do and it so he's rebelling. maybe this is too favorable an impression, but I think even in the worst case scenario he's really only doing it because he can tell it makes people upset and he likes trolling them.

That doesn't change the fact that he literally payed money for people to hold up a sign saying "kill all jews". And then heavily publicized the fact that they DID do it.

It's definitely a maturity issue. It's definitely in poor taste to continually go to Nazi jokes and "Kill all Jews." Like, there are dozen of "I bet they'll never do this" things he could've chose, but he chose "Kill all Jews" sign

Pretty stupid choice

comedians don't really get fired unless they are writing for a program

and most of them would get fired for something that makes them appear to be sympathetic to nazis

yeah that is kinda my point. saying 95% of americans would get fired for doing what PDP did is pretty disingenuous. it's not like he has a boss or a full time job. he makes comedy videos and posts them on the internet. he's more comparable to the 5% that wouldn't -- not the 95% that would.

the way I read this post makes it sound like you haven't actually seen the video or know much about what happened. if I'm mistaken then feel free to ignore this response. anyway, he did not hire people to walk out with signs saying kill all jews.

he went to a website where you can pay two guys to hold up a sign that says anything you want and make a short video recording

it was two guys in the middle of nowhere
with no people around
they hold up the sign for like five seconds
and then the clip ends

if the image you have in your head is that like pewdiepie was paying people to go walk around in public waving around nazi propaganda this is nothing at all like what actually transpired.

this I agree with. and that line exists at exactly the spot wherever their audience and/or employers decide where the line is. or at the point where the employer starts to feel that it's a liability to keep a controversial personality around.

I don't think pewdiepie and disney are/were a very good match to begin with. he probably didn't care one way or the other whether disney dropped him, but I could be wrong about that.
