I always see people gushing praise for the game, saying it's still the best Zelda. They usually they talk about it playing it on their gameboy all the time as a kid. I liked it and all, but it was my 13th or 14th Zelda game. While I appreciate concepts and mechanics it introduced, I just think most Zelda games have surpassed it to a great degree. For example, I think each of the Oracle games (individually, let alone together) do almost everything better, and provide a lot more content as well. I just want to see how much of a role nostalgia plays here.

It's a good game but the system of constantly swiping items is annoying af. I know you swap items in most Zelda games, but I recall bringing up the menu every other minute.

I love it, but I've long since grown too bored of it to play anymore. It's short to the point that you can 100% it in an afternoon if you know where everything is.

Its clumsy and outdated, but a decent game. ALBW is the best 2D Zelda by far imo.

It was my third Zelda, after Ocarina, and Ages.

It's kinda fun, but the overworld is like a giant maze, and I don't enjoy playing it now after beating it several times.

I don't even think it's a top 5 2D Zelda. The Oracles both surpass it, ALttP and ALBW are better, and I prefer MC to LA.

It's still my favorite 2D Zelda. I played LoZ and LttP before it, but LA was the first I beat. Must have been about 1996.

I liked the Ooracle games a lot too, but I felt like they overcomplicated the LA formula. The respective gimmicks for each game (changing seasons/eras) and animal companions lead to a lot of backtracking.

It's pretty fun

I love it and the first time I played it was 2013.
But switching items is pretty annoying in this game.

I played the oracle games first so obviously it didn't impress me as much as other people. The Oracle games are better in every way, but I'm not downplaying the value to a game coming first.

Like Galaxy is million times better than Galaxy 2 just because it came first so 2 felt like an expansion pack

I disagree about the oracles. I think LA had terrible backtracking. The overworld wasn't difficult, but tedious to navigate, as you had to walk through 5 or 6 screens to get two tiles away. The warp system wasn't nearly as good as it would have needed to be to make up for this, only Spirit Tracks has an inferior warp system.

Yes. All the 2D Zeldas have quite a lot of backtracking, but the Oracles really took it above and beyond with the Rod and Harp. They're still possibly my 2nd favorite 2D Zeldas though.

LA > OoS/OoA (> or =) ALBW > LttP > any other 2D Zelda

The difference for me was that I enjoy the overworld in Oracles, but I don't in LA
