Which would you rather become?

Someone please post stats for their pay, benefits, and how chill the job is. I'm thinking about becoming a paramedic for the fire station.

Thought this was going to be a battle to the death.

In that case, I assume the Police would win by a landslide.

i am an emt with no desire to go medic because shit pay unless you become a fire medic or flight medic.

either way. go fire or police.

fire you work 24-48 hour shifts, so if you're not into that don't do it.

if you want to go police be aware that 80% of the community has utter disdain for you.

Well, fire medic is what I'm up for. Do you have any more information about them? Hours. What the average work day looks like. Things like that.

I was going to say fireman assuming there's no weapons involved.

No weapons would still favor the police. They have arm-to-arm combat training, iirc. Firefighters have mandatory fitness hours, but that's it.

then go get your emt then work at a 911 company for about a year while getting your fire certs.

it really depends on your state, though. I live in Cali, where everyone and their mom's want to go Fire. Also, currently, a LARGE amount of Fire Departments are hiring right now.

Be aware that there is a national Medic shortage right now.

It looks like the fire department I've applied to will handle the certs. I directly applied to them via the city website and it says little to no experience required. Maybe this has something to do with the large amount of Fire Departments hiring? I jumped on that real quick.

yeah you definitely need to do more research. No way you get hired without even having your EMT lol.

if you live anywhere near montclair I reccomend Fire Future. That's where I did my EMT traning. It's a 3 month class as opposed to 6 month or 1 year. Also does not require a uniform and drug test like other EMT Schools and is pretty affordable.

I went through it now I work ALS (911) in San Bernardino County, the biggest county in the country and one of the most violent. Our call volume is ridiculous, and we are routinely held over past our 12-hour shifts. Our pay rate is barely above minimum wage. Medic is maybe a few dollars more.

Obviously there are many gratifying things about being in EMS. But these are just things to consider before you choose this career path.
