The other day, on my way home from work, I was attacked by a stranger, he came up behind me, hit me a couple of times, before shoving me and running away shouting that I was a fucking c***.

I wasn't badly hurt, mostly some bruising on my back and a horrible fright, and I made an incident report to the police shortly after it happened. But to have it investigated I need to go to a police station and file a report in person, and according to the officer I spoke to on the phone, the only way they'll be able to catch the guy is if the security cameras in the area managed to record it.

Everyone I've spoken to has given me different answers on what I should do, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, sue him for a bunch of money and medical costs.

Whats the down side of trying to get this guy caught and charged?

I sure dont see one, except maybe a bit of wasted time if the investigation turns up nothing, but i think you should.

Yes, not just for yourself but any other potential victims too afraid to speak up and any future victims that may be attacked if this is some guy randomly attacking people.

Either pursue charges or butcher him and sell the meat. As long as nobody eats the brain, they won't have any health issues. Just sayin'.

Even if that does happen, all you'll have lost is the time spent at the police station. They can decide for themselves how best to spend their resources, all you need to decide is whether or not you want to see this guy taken off the streets.
