The self-described transparency organization WikiLeaks is a "non-state, hostile intelligence service" that is often "abetted by state actors like Russia," CIA Director Mike Pompeo said Thursday.

"WikiLeaks walks like a foreign intelligence agency and talks like a foreign intelligence agency," Pompeo said during an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He added that "it's time to call out WikiLeaks what it is."

"RT’s editor-in-chief visited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in August 2013, where they discussed renewing his broadcast contract with RT, according to Russian and Western media," the report said. "Russian media subsequently announced that RT had become 'the only Russian media company' to partner with WikiLeaks and had received access to 'new leaks of secret information.'"

Over the summer, when WikiLeaks was releasing daily batches of emails stolen from John Podesta's inbox, many journalists noted that Russia Today and Sputnik — another state-run Russian news agency — frequently shared the leaked documents on Twitter before WikiLeaks did.

Hostile to them. More like "competing".

Then again they've seemed to have an agenda lately.

Probably a fair assessment. At face value they do appear to have an anti-American government bias, so as far as the CIA is concerned it's safe to call Wikileaks hostile if they appear to be acting against the interests of the U.S. government.

It's not quite that simple. They clearly withhold documents until the time when it will have the most policy impact to support their own political agenda. In short they have an obvious bias. Now that in no way excuses malfeasance of the people who they expose, but it certainly doesn't paint them as an unbiased bastion of truth and justice when they're playing the realpolitik game.

Now to be fair, their game is probably the smarter game to have the most impact with respect to their own agenda rather than taking the purely moralistic approach, but they're not claiming to be an agenda driven political force. They're claiming to an unbiased outlet only looking to expose the truth, which is disingenuous at best.

No I don't believe so. And

CIA Director Mike Pompeo, in his first speech since taking over the agency, lambasted WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange -- calling the group a "non-state hostile intelligence service" that is often abetted by "state actors like Russia."

Speaking Thursday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Pompeo called Assange a "fraud," someone with no “moral compass” and a “narcissist who has created nothing of value.”

He asserted that Assange and former National Security Agency staffer and famed leaker Edward Snowden “seek to use that information to make a name for themselves” and they “care nothing about the lives they put at risk or the damage they cause to national security.”

I used to hate WikiLeaks, but last year they exposed the ineptitude in our government. The CIA, FBI, none of them know what the fuck they're doing.

That's not news, pretty much all government activity is concealed to hide ineptitude, not "sensitive information".

Wikileaks does not do intelligence collection. They simply solicit people to provide information to them

An agency that collects information is an intelligence agency, WikiLeaks just happens to also be a journalistic entry simultaneously. Asking people for information is acting as an intelligence agent.

It's a succinct way of saying "we make money by knowing things!", everything else is extracirricular.

i don't really care about the information leaks, i care about people thinking he's some sort of hero even though he raped like four women and that's what he's seeking asylum to run away from.

The CIA Director calling Wikileaks a "a non-state hostile intelligence agency" is not the same as the CIA calling it that.

Well given that the CIA is an agency, not an individual with a voice box, only people can speak on its behalf. The Director of the CIA can speak for the CIA better than most could. Topic title couldn't fit it.

The CIA is the worst. Granted, I guess it's not as bad as the SPLC which puts anybody who criticizes the SPLC on its terrorist watch list or whatever, a list which has included "dangerous" individuals like Ben Carson.

Hostile is a stretch because they're not against America, just elements in the US government which operate illegally and without scrutiny.
