It doesn't make asking her the first time sexist. Asking her multiple times while never asking either man or taking the open machine is sexist.

I generally just default to being nice, unless I actually have something to gain by being angry (which is rare). "Is there something wrong with that other machine?" would have been perfectly adequate for dealing with this guy. He wants to be a tool about it, that's his problem, and it's easy enough to brush that off without getting upset.

80% of people are on their phones during their rest break. I log my workout on my phone. I listen to music on my phone. I'm not gonna not use my phone at the gym. There's nothing wrong with using your phone at the gym.

the other thing is the amount of people on here who act like almost anyone leaves their machine open between their sets. i rarely EVER see people doing that. almost everyone just camps on their equipment til they're done using it because unless you're doing a big three lift and you're working up to your regular working weight you're only gonna be on any given machine for 4-7 minutes depending on how many sets you have and what your rest time is.

i've never had anyone have an issue just asking to work in. all you do is switch during rests. there's no problem with that.

Anytime you have a confrontation with someone at the gym, make sure you report it and give them the time it happened. Sometimes there are gym mental terrorists that do that. We had to throw this loud black guy out who kept bullying people on the free weights side. Dude was good friends with everyone, but was warned like 5 times. It was a big mess. The dude was throwing a fit and the cops were called, but he left before they got there.

That wasn't the only thing we would do either. He had a screaming match with his baby momma mid-gym in front of everyone. Neither of them would stop yelling and take it outside. The girlfriend threw her drink at the guy and it smacked against the mirrors. No break, but still.

You assume that because I'm single now that I've resigned myself to a life of loneliness or that I'm somehow a lesser person for it.
