What I really, REALLY never get is why there isn't ever (not that I've seen anyway) a "Why not both" option.
Just seems like such a glaringly obvious option that plenty would vote on. I just never vote because of it and I feel it's a shame.

For me it goes something like this.

Big dogs (wolflike)

Cats

Small dogs.

In general, there are exceptions (I mean who doesn't like Ernie)

Cats are god tier plush bundles of love. The cuddles, rumbles, head mashes, and sweet expectant faces are infinitely worth the occasional hairball and claw incident.

Dog-wise, I could enjoy living with something badass, intelligent, and cool looking in that wolfish sort of way - like a German shepherd - if I had the time and inclination to care for one properly, including training and regular outings to a dog park. As it stands, I don't have enough of a hole in my heart for a dog to commit to all of that. I'm happy to fuss over other people's, though.

I would select both. I may like them equally but for different reasons.

I'm just surprised that the "cats but dogs are ok" and "dogs but cats are ok" are almost tied rn

I got a small big dog. She's 55 lbs, just small enough to carry and can barely fit in your lap (She doesn't like it), and big enough to endure a full strength hug.

Because "I don't want to have to pick" choices suck, and tend to skew the results toward the "safe" choice. And in fairness, you still have one option where you don't have to pick between them. Just that thankfully, the "I don't want to have to pick" choice comes with a price this time ^_^

It's not a "I don't want to have to pick" option though. I legitimately love both equally. People who don't want to pick don't vote at all I would imagine.

People who have a preference are ok.

People who have a STRONG preference are weird.

I am more of a cat person myself but I like dogs as well. I did have a bunch of inconvenient experiences with a pack of strays that I had to pass every morning on my way to work and said pack is causing mild troubles to other people and is likely to cause more trouble which cast a shadow on that big "dogs are the best" kind of thing, but I have since moved (had to, regardless of the dog issues) and there doesn't seem to be much issues where I live now

I was always dog person, still am. But when you grow up you find you can't have a dog and live wherever you want.

Dogs. I like cats, but I'm allergic. Makes the choice pretty easy.

Also, my parents have had dogs since they were kids, so I've always had dogs until I moved out. Couldn't get one of my own because before I was away from home for extended periods, and now just isn't a good time. Maybe one day.
