They don't? :u The gays just want equal rights. They shouldn't have to get permission from Christians for that. You don't see gays crusading to take away Christian's rights.

Why can't the Christians just leave the gays alone? The gays wouldn't have such a bad opinion of them if they did.

The point of the comic, as I see it, is don't immediately jump to stereotypes of certain group when forming your opinions on them. Not all Christians are homophobic, just as all homosexual people, apparently don't have STD's (though I have no idea where that stereotype came from). I thought that was pretty clear in the comic. Treat people individually and stop perpetuating stereotypes and prejudice. No one likes someone else telling them how to live their life no matter how "right" that person thinks they are.

yes, that is a good point. :o But the Christians are guilty of this far more often than gay people are. I just roll my eyes at the perceived victimhood on the Christians part here. Oh, you got stereotyped/pigeon-holed as a bigot for your religious beliefs? That never happens to gay people, right?

I'm not arguging that, and I don't think the comic is either. I think the creator is making a statement of don't prejudge people on stereotypes. Get to know the individual person and you might be surprised with what you find. Would it be different if it were a black and white guy, or a guy and gal or a transgender person and cis person? The point would still stand, he just choose Christians and homosexuals for the context of his point.

I have nothing against people who have faith in Christianity and stuff like that. :o I think that is a wonderful thing actually if it makes them happy. I just don't like them going around and thinking it gives them the right to preach to people and tell them they "need Jesus." Just because you're able to convince yourself of something enough to dedicate yourself to believing in it doesn't mean everyone else has the same capacity.

That's fine. But non-Christians don't have to just accept that with no opinion or reaction. Just as they feel the need to tell everyone they need Jesus, others can also respond to it.

Regardless of the dogma of Christians, it's poor social graces to tell people what you think they "need."

Exactly. Christians want you to let them try to convert you and if you refuse them you just need to shut up and stop asking for rights they don't want you to have.

Excuse me for not wanting to bend over backwards for them. When they stop trying to persecute others I'll start caring.

I think the comic is actually kinda neat. I feel both sides need to reflect on this. Not all Christians are homophobes, and the ones that are need to understand that they should stay out of what doesn't concern them, and let people live their life how they want to (as long as it's not hurting anyone).

Why would I? The point still stands. A broken clock is right at least once a day? People need to be more objective about looking at the message and not the messenger, if only when it "disproves" what they want to believe. If you want to disagree that prejudice and stereotypes are bad, or only bad for some people that's fine too, we can talk about that. But hiding behind, "that guy that said a lot of bad things, so therefore this one thing is also bad" doesn't help foster any progressive behavior between peoples.

It isn't unreasonable to look at context, either. Especially when a message is being conveyed by someone.
It only seems to be used when it favors the poster's argument. TC offered one comic to read and read that one comic and stated my opinion. I don't think context is bad either, but it is usually only used to dismiss what one doesn't want to address.

The only thing I can think of is the propaganda in the 80's (or at least I assume, I was young at the time) of associating AIDS with homosexual people. And that was 30 years ago. I have never heard that propaganda still being pushed or that homosexual people like heroin. I'm pretty sure anyone that tries heroine is going to fucking like it regardless of their sexuality.

Even if that is the case, it isn't unreasonable to be in favor of context. Regardless of how people utilize it.
