i didn't get that at all from the show, or the book.

i actually really enjoyed it, i personally went through a very dark time with suicidal thoughts and depression back in february. had to take leave from work. i'm doing a lot better now on some meds. returning to work next month.

i don't feel like it glorified suicide or anything. i think the big take away was that people need to be more aware of suicide and depression. to watch for signs in friends/family. that they won't always ask for help.

i know i was like that. i didn't want anyone to worry about me. felt ashamed that i was feeling the way i was. it got to the point i was scared i was going to kill/hurt myself before i finally reached out to my mom. if i hadn't done that i'd probably be dead.

Didn't watch the show, my problem is that it's being heralded as a great eye opener to suicide when I think it sends the wrong message entirely. My issue is that it implies that you have more influence and are more important if you kill yourself than if you're alive dealing with your issues. It almost glorifies the whole thing and shows that death isn't the end of your story...when in fact it literally is.

It's really not hard to figure out that she's "talking" to these people well after she's dead. It makes it seem like NOW she's taken back the power after offing herself.

It's not that simple. That's not the point of the story. You don't get to have an opinion if you haven't watched or read the book.

Man, I don't think this show glorifies suicide at all. I've never had depression or suicidal thoughts, but without going into any spoilers, just watching the pain that she inflicted on her family by taking her life would be something that would make me think twice about doing something so drastic, and not something that hastens the process.

I don't have experience with these severe mental related issues, but if a TV show makes you want to commit suicide even more, the TV show in question is the least concerning thing about the whole ordeal. You're in a position that pretty much anything could be a "trigger", and need immediate medical assistance. Netflix has no responsibility here, it's a show that doesn't infringe any laws or anything of the sort in its production and themes. Holding them accountable for potential spikes in suicides is complete nonsense.

And yes, I watched all 13 episodes.

That isn't what the complaint was.

I've never had depression or suicidal thoughts

Then you fundamentally have nothing to contribute to the complaints. The complaints are about the impact of the show on people who aren't you.
