Goy the reminem chocobi trophy. Beat some girls ass i aeon fights. Bahamut is op. Cleared out lost fayth and got jojimbo? Got all 10 of each monster in the cavern. Tonberrys took forever. Got my fortune sphere and used tidus' 33 levels built up. Still need another to help wakka along because he is sitting with 23 levels at his luck node. Still need a few more calm lands monsters.

Took 3 hours to get the tonberrys ugh.

Got a cloudy mirror and a rusty sword.

And there is basically zero chance you could beat even 20% of the game without using the sphere grid.

Imagine being halfway through first-timing a game and thinking you can tell a bunch of people what's possible in it. Not only is a NSG challenge possible, I think the hardest challenge that has been completed is NSGNSNCNONE(NNE)NBB. That's
-No Sphere Grid
-No Summons
-No Customisation
-No Overdrive
-No Escaping (No No Encounters)
-No Blitzball

Of course, it requires a lot of luck but is entirely possible. If you Google the full challenge name you'll find a topic from the FFX board with a video of the final boss (not linking it here because spoilers).

Wakka's I think you can do in as little as 26-28 games if you know how to cycle the prizes. Basically, whenver a tournament or league is about to come up, the prize list doesn't get generated until you actually open the blitzball menu, so you can reset until it has what you want. You can also forfeit exhibition matches to speed up existing tournaments to expire on their own.

As for Lulu's, there's a spot where lightning will strike pretty consistently so it's not that bad.

You wouldn't think it, but Kimahri's is the worst.

Bad camera angles and hitting a single wrong butterfly pretty much means you're fucked. Although nowadays there's probably a video guide you can just mimic, in which case it might not be that bad.

What are some of the notable sidequests?

Just monster catching and celestials? Or is there more?

I assume Reminem Aeon girl probably has a yojimbo battle now.

Tidus and Auron can cap damage alrdy.

I fought a monster in the arena who made the first 3 turns himself and hit my characters for 43k a piece...lol.

Celestials let you get above 9999, btw. It's technically possible to do without them, but it's not exactly easy to do. They also have hidden a hidden bonus based on how much HP or MP a character has.

Where are you at at this point?

Until you have the ability to go wherever you want, don't worry much about sidequests unless you stumble into them.

You can continue capturing monster as you are able to save time later. Mt. Gagazet in particular is important in this regard. You are correct about Belgemine having a Yojimbo fight, but you'll have to go back later anyway and I don't think you'll have much immediate use for the prize from that fight.

HD version plus maps online of the route make it pretty darn easy.

It is now easier and less time consuming then almost any other one imo.

If you're playing the HD version there's the whole Dark Aeon quest too. There's some minor other ones too like the Omega Ruins and fighting that giant fish monster boss you ran away from in the beginning of the game, if you even remember that.

You should at least try for Lulu's a couple times. Look up the right spot to do it on YouTube and then it's just a matter of staying in the rhythm.

Also Tidus' is the worst. Fuck chocobo racing.

I think Kimarhi's got easier with the switch to HD. I remember as a teenager playing it on a crappy TV and having trouble even telling the blue and red butterflies apart. The hitboxes are still annoying, though, so there will be some trial and error.

It's when Tidus first shows up in Spira, he falls in the water and monster attacks. It's an unloseable battle though, you trade 2 or 3 blows and then Tidus runs away into some ruins where you have to find fire and stuff.

Got thundering plain jetch sphere. Ran from ixion. Tidus now hits for capped damage without a crit. Wakka has 52 levels stored up for when he gets his fortune spheres.

Realized I can upgrade aeons stats so I been dumping spheres into it bahamut to raise his stats. And adding some techs.

Anyways,

Got Godhand. Fully powered up Tidus's Celestial - He hits for like 30k with it.

Beat Yunalesca. Got all monsters in Lightning Plains, Macalania, Mt Gagazet.

Need to get Auron's celestial. Nirvana has 1 upgrade on it. Found some random chests and Omega Ruins on the airship crap.

Story is getting better and finally someone called out Tidus on being a crybaby little kid.

Need to find a faster way to level as some of the arena bosses just spank my dudes.

Maybe you should look at the Monster Arena and Dark Aeons as extra content meant for people who want to exploit/break the game.

You have to backtrack out of the final dungeon and not save having beaten it, but that's not far and you can't save once you hit the point of no return so no worrying about that.

There is no meaningful point of no return.

Like it's after any point you can save, so you can't mess anything up. Just beat the game, and the final save point is where you'll always be able to reload your file from, which doesn't lock you out of anything.

It's just a little annoying because you have to backtrack through the final dungeon I guess, but you can just No Encounter or just kill everything in one shot anyways.
