I'm trying to gain a census if its worth pursuing another career and spending 3-4 years in school. It costs a ton and its a rather large commitment so I want to have as much info as I can get. I'm currently on the fence about if I'm gonna stay on the same path as an electrician or switch to something a little 'easier' and less of a daily grind and a job that I can utilize my mental faculties more.

I just hear a lot of people that went to college and feel like they wasted 4 years of their life because they just ended up working a shit job, and are in serious debt. I just don't want to end up like that : /

well, I busted my ass only to realize that employers care more about experience than they do that little piece of paper. So, in conclusion, we're all fucked

I kind of regret going to law school because of the debt. If I hadn't gone and failed/dropped out, I might have spent the rest of my life thinking I messed up for not going though.

Definitely don't regret undergrad, but I would have picked a different major if I knew I wasn't going to pursue law.

That too. It took me a whole year, two cross-country moves, and well over 50 applications before I even got my first call.

It was useless, but my parents paid for it so I don't regret it.

Yes I tried. Yes I did alright.

Nah, I'm in law school now, which I really enjoy, and I obviously need a bachelor's degree to get admitted to that so it all worked out.

Depends on what you want to do, and how developed of a plan you have prior to entering.

Figure out what you want to get out of college. Then there's plenty of opportunities to get that and above. Students who enter college not really knowing what they really want to get out of it and largely don't have a plan are the ones, and sadly are the majority, that don't end up seeing the worth.

The plan was always medical school, so college was a necessary stepping stone. Got a BS in psych. Don't regret it at all. It was a good education and will be a useful adjunct in my career.

Don't go unless you have a plan.

I was forced into college, had no fucking guidance, it was a complete waste.

Tbh, I feel like the culture was too tolerant to people not knowing what they wanted out of it. I knew what I wanted to do in high school. No one I spoke to ever knew what they wanted to do.

The ambivalence continued onto undergrad. I think they just had this false notion that the answer would divine out of nowhere into their labs as opposed to being the result of reflection, thinking, and planning ahead.

I think the US is slowly realizing that """higher education""" is not worth what it was perceived to be in previous decades, but there will always be discrimination against those who don't possess a college degree.

Reality of life: most jobs do not require the things taught in colleges at all. You can claim that college educated folks are "more intelligent" or "more cultured" but the time spent learning pointless garbage in college would be better spent actually learning practical things about their desired profession.

I don't regret it at all. I used it as a means to an end. Borrowed comparatively little money each semester and paid the rest out of pocket. That's how I got out with no debt because I had way more money saved by the time I was done. Also didn't go to some expensive college. Went to an accredited college that was reasonable in tuition

Yeah I went to college when I was about 20 after leaving HS and getting my GED but I had no clue what I wanted to do, I was hardheaded, and just ended up screwing around the whole time and ditching class with the other flunkies just like HS and barely lasted a semester. I really wasn't ready for college at that time. I was just aimless, so yeah that's good advice.

Anyway now I've been thinking about going to school to be a Physical Therapist possibly. Anyone else here a PT?

Why change career? Whats the position above your supervisor's position? Are you good at what you do? Can you use your electrical experiences to change the business youre in? Taking what you know + the right college degree can really apply your experience towards business making decisions.

If youre deadset in a career change though, go for it. Who cares what the employment looks like when youre done. You will do what you can to make it all work for you.
