meingott 04/19/17 9:54:45 PM #1:	Been itching to buy an investment property but the ones in my current price range are all in areas where crime is really bad. I'm looking for a duplex or a triplex so I can potentially house-hack (living in one unit, rent out the others) but unless you're prepared to drop serious money you'll need to settle for areas with a lot of crime. <_< From what I've been reading on city-data.com, having white skin and venturing into those areas is pretty much a no no because you'll be targeted. For example, I'm looking at a 2-unit in the Austin neighborhood but they're saying that people should avoid the whole neighborhood. sigh Fucking Chicago. --- These people are literally ignorant of the law. Barely livable areas (IE where the probability of getting shot is at least somewhat lower) are still expensive in Chicago. You can interpret that in both ways with the same meaning. That's a shame. I really want to see some of these neighborhoods revived and safe. Austin has some beautiful homes in it, especially as you get closer to Oak Park. But it's so fucking violent. :/ It'd be a huge risk to live there/invest there, but it could be worth it if more people join in. I've lived near Midway before and it was fine, although it was getting more violent than it was before. Still livable though. I have good friends who live in Chicago Lawn and you can actually walk around outside at night. On weekends there's even families and kids playing at one of the parks there.
