Do you support the Death Penalty?

The state of Arkansas has carried out its FIRST execution in 12 years today, just before midnight as 2 other Men were SPARED from the Death Penalty by the Supreme Court but 51 y/o Ledell Lee was DENIED and was immediately sentenced to his death by lethal injection..

Don Davis and Bruce Ward were spared by last minute appeals but Anti-Death advocates were devastated that Ledell Lee was not given the reprieve and he was executed earlier tonight at 7:00pm after 12 YEARS of no executions in the state...

Arkansas AG Leslie Rutledge said a federal court "denied all requests from inmate Ledell Lee for a stay of execution". He was sentenced to death in the 1995 murder of his neighbor Debra Reese who was beaten to death inside her home...Lee and his attorneys maintained his innocence but he was found guilty.

Debra was struck 36 times with a tire tool her husband gave her for protection. Prosecutors said he was a serial rapist and killer and accused of killing several women 17-70 but was not tried for any other crimes.

The ACLU and Innocence Project asked for more DNA testing to be done

He declined his last meal and opted for a communion..His trial had a bad defense according to his supporteds as Anti-Death Penalty advocate Sister Helen Prejean said "Just a reminder: The judge at Lee's trial was having an affair with the assistant prosecutor. They later married. Justice?"

Ledell had fetal alcohol syndrome and significant brain damage and intellectual disability but his lawyer never brought up the conflicts of the interest with the judge on his case.

Arkansas is on a fast track to execute 10 inmates in 2 weeks as their lethal drug is expiring and the Governor said they didn't want to "waste a good drug".

Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson set the executions less than 2 months ago

Bruce Ward was convicted of killing 18 y/o Rebecca Doss at a convenience store while Don Davis murdered Jane Daniels in northwestern Arkansas. Both men were granted stay of executions and will not be put to death..

The other 7 inmates sentenced to death are still pending as this 2 week rush to execute inmates continues...

They should focus on removing the death penalty as a whole instead of wasting everybody's money on trying to delay the punishment of genuine monsters.

How does this factor into Lee being executed?

Not what I consider a death penalty crime.

Yes. Certainly after hitting someone 36 times with a weapon. Any 1st degree purposeful murder, other then self defense, should be death within a year of being convicted. And I like that Governer for not wanting to "waste a good drug"

I only support it in the case of mass murderers, and/or serial killers, and only when there is 100% proof of guilt.

Two white guys spared, while the black guy with the questionable conviction gets the needle.

Way to propagate Southern racism, Arkansas.

What did the two white guys do? Did they beat a woman to death, striking her 36 times with a tire iron? Just curious.

Anyway, I wonder how the people feel, who protest the penalty so much, having to defend people like this, that beat other humans to death. I get where they're coming from, I really do, but it makes it almost impossible to get a point across when the criminal is so violent.

Me personally, I'm fine with the death penalty in so far as it works how it should. But a lot of innocent people have been killed this way, and on top of that even one innocent is too much. Rather than fight the death penalty itself though, I'd rather see change in the system that leads to incorrectly prosecuting innocent people.

I can't support the death penalty, because innocent people have been executed. Everyone should have their entire natural life to prove their innocence. Considering how permanent death tends to be, I think it's best to just not do it at all.

Also because if we execute an innocent person that means the person who actually committed the crime got away with it, and is still out there.
