The poll today asked about cell phones. I haven't had one since I lost my job in 2009. I haven't bothered to get one since, but I'm starting to wonder if I should.

My issue so far is that the only people who would call me are my mother, my job, and maybe rare phone calls from my friend. I can see the utility as far as web browsing, but beyond that I don't really know how important one would be.

Do cell phones make that much of a difference when nobody really wants to talk to you?

Mobile internet is an important enough aspect by itself to warrant a cell phone. The whole communication part of it is just a nice bonus.

I've had several kinds from like cheap ones, to midrange, to flagships. I tend to use them for the same things though. I will say that technology moves fast enough where if you only get like the midrange ones or lower you'll have to upgrade consistently if you do any like power use like games or something.

From like what are they good for. Internet is a big thing, also just some entertainment stuff, use as a clock, radio, music player (although I have a spare phone for that purpose I got on the cheap), texting, emergency stuff, gps, etc. Even if no one really talks to you it's probably worth like a 40 dollar a month investment for a cheap prepaid, or like a 60ish or so for low tier post paid service.

I don't even talk to a ton of people on my devices, but I do like keeping in contact with people I like to talk to frequently and I know if I ever had the misfortune of not having a phone it would be significantly harder to keep tabs on some people, especially the ones that don't frequent social media.
