so will saying anything besides 'mohamed was a holy man whose every word and action was correct' going to be considered hate speech and breaking the law?

Interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose repudiated such claims and said: "To be clear, this is not a 'bill' nor a 'law'.

It's cute that they tried, but tribalism's been a nasty part of humanity for eons. Nature don't give a fuck what government has to say about it rofl.

"Motion 103 calls on the government to "condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and religious discrimination", asks the government to "recognize the need to quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear", and request for the "Commons heritage committee to study how the government could develop a government-wide approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination, including Islamophobia, and collect data to provide context for hate crime reports and to conduct needs assessments for impacted communities. Findings are to be presented within eight months." Khalid has been "unwilling to entertain any compromise on the specific wording" of Motion 103"

Oh, Canada...

It's incredibly stupid, but thankfully it's not a bill or any sort of enforceable legislation whatsoever.

Jfc are we doing this again

1. Motions are entirely meaningless
2. There have been motions in the past for specific religions, like one put forth by Irwin Cotler which used almost the exact wording as this one, but in defense of Jews
3. While this motion mentions Islamophobia by name, it doesn't do it to the exclusion of all other religions. It was just the most relevant at the time because it came right after the Quebec mosque shooting. This is in contrast to Cotler's motion, which only mentioned anti-Semitism yet had no opposition from most people.

The only reason people throw a bitch fit about this is because "those damn scary mooslims!" Criticise the Conservatives for suddenly fearing for free speech while supporting Cotler's motion. Criticise the NDP for somehow being okay with this despite being against the anti-Semitism one for reasons of free expression and a possible chill on it. Hell, go after the Liberals for virtue-signalling or whatever because they always seem to be the ones who make motions like this. However, to pretend this would lead to any sort of blasphemy law or that it has any legal weight at all is ignorant.
