And those of you that do have one do you think you use a lot of what you learned in school in your work?

You go to a career college. Career colleges are generally not government supported in any capacity, and their training and certifications are rarely recognized by the larger academic world.
In addition, as most career colleges are glorified private schools, this group may be further subdivided into non-profit schools and proprietary schools, operated for the sole economic benefit of their owners.

The emphasis on the commercialization of education, a widespread poor reputation for quality was retained by a great number of career colleges for over promising what the job prospects for their graduates would actually be in their field of study upon completion of their program, and for emphasizing the number of careers from which a student could choose.

The popularity of career colleges exploded in recent years, but the number of government-sponsored vocational schools in the United States has decreased significantly.

Regardless of the numerous problems with all kinds of universities, but particularly with shady private ones, I must point out that the troll alt finally returned after a good reprieve.

I know @ClarkDuke is a troll alt because he has a guy faking a mammogram as his profile image while pretending to have cancer (which is offensive to actual sufferers for any number of reasons) and because he has 47 karma in 3 months. He's clearly an alt and also a troll, thus troll alt.

I was going to pay for one class at a time until I finished while working, but than my car got totaled and I needed it to work.

I got a bachelor's degree in Economics a long time ago. Now going back for Accounting, the language of business and micromanagement. I'm also taking Integral Calc in the fall just to learn Linear Algebra on my own which is the basis of graduate econometrics or statistics. That's going to be my backup plan. Stupid me, I could've majored in Math probably but I didn't want to fall into a stereotype and never cared about school. Now I have lost time I got to make up.

I have a Bachelors in Pre-Law. Unfortunately, the job market around here has continued a downward dive. Most law offices around here want 8 years of experience in the field, the few that would hire me, wanted me to work minimum wage.

I would have kept going for a master or law school, but all my savings, and the entirety of my credit reserves, went to medical debt. And I am still trying to dig myself out of that hole.

So, my degree has done nothing for me thus far.

I have a Bachelor degree in civil engineer and might go for a Master's one day once I know what field I want to focus it in.

Smallville posted...
And those of you that do have one do you think you use a lot of what you learned in school in your work?

Nope and I think it is near impossible to do such a thing. Civil engineer has multiple subfields and depending on which company/city you are hired into, you might only focus on certain aspects of civil engineering.

Majority of my classmates are project managers in construction companies, some work in structural, some in geotech, some in transportation, and some in water. I doubt any of my friends are using everything we were taught in school. Even then, school mostly teaches us the fundamentals. A lot of what we learn is done on the job.

The emphasis on the commercialization of education, a widespread poor reputation for quality was retained by a great number of career colleges for over promising what the job prospects for their graduates would actually be in their field of study upon completion of their program, and for emphasizing the number of careers from which a student could choose.
