19 y/o Ethan Roser from Cincinnati, Ohio, a student at Wheaton College was killed after he was accidentally hit by a HAMMER during a HAMMER THROW event at a track meet in Chicago, Illinois!!

He was volunteering at the Don Church Twilight track and field competition when he was hit by the hammer.

The hammer used is a metal ball attached to a steel wire. An athlete holds a grip at the other end of the wire and spins several times before release..Men use hammers that weigh 16lbs while women use under 9.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital before he was pronounced dead

Reverend Mark Roser said "We know he's with Jesus. And the fact that he's in paradise is a great source of comfort to us"....

Ethan was a freshman soccer player studying to be a minister. He was the youngest of 4 and the son of Christian missionaries who lived in Zimbabwe until he was 6.

Nope. I've done the other three throwing events as part of a decathlon, but never hammer throw.

He's technically from Mason. Guy grew up like 3 miles away from me. Didn't know him personally, but I have friends who did.

I'm a thrower at my college right now and I always hate when meets use volunteers in the throwing events because of incidents like this. It's not that hard to get actual licensed officials out there.
