Brawl is the better game, but it's also a game I will probably literally never play again, where as I will continue to play Melee.

64, Melee are both unique. Brawl and 4 are the same game, except 4 is better in literally everyway. There is simply no reason to ever play Brawl again once you 100%d it.

Melee is the "better" game, Brawl is more fun.

My poll is more recent and actually lasted 24 hours!

We also have proof that Melee fans are willing to do the crazy rally so you can't convince me they wouldn't have won that 1v1 poll.

They wouldn't have then.

Your new poll is a great representation of the fanbase honestly.

a small percentage that loves 64
quite a large pecentage that adores Melee as the competitive fighter it is.
And then a slightly higher % that views it as a fun ball to the wall party game that just want to play with all items set to high....

Almost every vote for 4 would have gone to Brawl if Brawl didn't exist (to be fair, most of 64 probably goes to Melee too) and vice versa for that matter. If it was just 4 vs Melee, almost everone who voted for Brawl would have voted 4. Melee will forever stand separate in the series, because quite frankly, that game was never meant to exist. The producers and director never set out to create a tournament fighter, the goal was always Mario Kart or Mario Party as fighting and on roids...

I assume whenever Smash Switch comes out, (if it takes the same line as 4) it will become the most popular, 4 will go down to Brawl level, rinse and repeat for every new entry forever unless they change the formula.

Competitive Melee is great to watch, and complete AIDS to play. It's also the simultaneously the best and worst to run large events for, so that drives me nuts every month.

Despite being a top Brawl player though, Melee is probably the better competitive game. Brawl is just so brutal to play now. The once-a-year nostalgia bracket is plenty for me at this point.

I think Smash 4 is the best if competitive and casual worlds. They need to patch a few things still, but it's not an awkward 7-character pyramid of viability (hell I'm #1 in my region with fucking Bowser.)

4 > Melee >= Brawl >>>>> eating my own shit >> 64

My bracket has the finals being 2007 vs 2008.

A.K.A. FF7 vs OOT. Pretty much the default finals for these contests.

We might get an Undertale punking, but hell if I know what people would punk us with. They're numbers. Like...maybe a Bub & Bob style punking, where they just go for something hilariously old-school and younger than most of the userbase like 1979? Most of the years like that are probably going to die in the prelims before the rest of the internet realizes there's a contest happening that they might want to punk, though.

And like...it's hard to punk people based on years anyway. Even if you're trying to troll Nintendo fans, pretty much any year after 1985 they'll be like "good choice, Nintendo made some good games that year!"

I believe you mean 1997 vs 1998, not 2007 vs 2008.

And I'd be pretty surprised if it's not FF VII vs OoT, but don't be shocked if it actually becomes Chrono Trigger vs OoT. We saw it was probably LEGIT the strongest game on the site last tournament. Would CT be able to beat both OoT and RBY together though.... that's a fucking murderers row...

Err...yep, 1997 vs 1998.

And Chrono Trigger being the strongest? Err...wow, when did this happen? Like...sure, I remember the days when Crono vs Mario was a legit nailbiter, but all things Chrono Trigger kind of gradually declined in subsequent contests.

Did you watch the last contest?

It was EASILY the strongest non Admin allowed vote stuffed game. I mean, nothing was close. It's possible when it went against OoT that wouldn't have mattered anyway, and when push came to shove the god would still put it down, but in the rounds we did see, it just torched everything.

2001 has Melee and FFX to draw from both of the big companies on this site as well as Halo and Silent Hill, plus it also boasts 3 consoles - depending on how heavily consoles get weighted by voters, that is potentially a very scary year.

1998 has OoT which destroys Melee and every other Nintendo game, except for RBY, because that might as well be it's own company not just Nintendo. It also has a Square Enix game, then it has a stronger Blizzard game (sadly). It doesn't have consoles, but it won't matter if you have OoT and RBY.
