I don't think this is a bad move because people are sleeping on the potential Melee rally, which I think is the most likely one of all. Undertale fans rallied their game like three months after release when it was the hyped new thing. Melee fans rallied their 15-year-old game over two classic RPGs because they're still as rabid as ever. Seems to me like Melee madness is way more likely to repeat itself.

But yeah, it won't win due to diversity. Smash rallies or nothing.

Undertale's rally was MASSIVE. It's unlikely any fanbase will be large enough and care enough to do that in this contest.

And in the long run we were proven right. Brawl was garbage and had no staying power outside the casual audience. No one plays Brawl anymore and you sure as hell won't ever see it at EVO like you will Melee.

Well of course Brawl had more staying power with the casual audience, it's the more casual game like the series was meant to be. Melee is the garbage game to me since it caters more to the tourney crowd.

Unlike Ulti, I did not state my opinion as a fact. I did say it was garbage "to me". The reason I love Brawl more than Melee is because of the way I enjoy playing Smash Bros. I like interactive stages with max items for complete chaos. I do not like playing basic non moving flat stages with no items. Therefore, playing the game less casual and more tourney-like is unfun to me. Outside of tripping, which isn't even a big deal, Brawl is better in every way for me.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a garbage game! Just because you like something doesn't make it good. I've never understood why people can't admit when they like something bad. I'll admit I like poorly made comedy movies and crappy music, I will freely admit that. Just embrace that you like a bad game and enjoy playing it

Find me a year with bigger hitters all time than OoT (the biggest hitter ever, not just on this board, period) RBY (the highest selling RPG ever, started the most successful video game franchise ever, and the second highest selling per unit after only Super Mario) Half Life (one of the most critically acclaimed games ever) Suckcraft (for better or worse, one of the most important releases ever, and a national sport in a country.) Banjo Kazooie (in many opinions the best platformer ever, and in virtually all opinons the zenith of Collectathon games) MGS, (the start of one of the most critically acclaimed series ever) and Tactics (perhaps the best game in the third highest selling series ever, and yet again, one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, and one of the first games to really use the medium to tell a far reaching story) Tony Hawk Pro Skater (changed sports games and the way they would be made forever)

What is 2001?

Melee, DMC, MGS2, FFX, GTA 3, and KH, right? It doesn't even begin to compare. It is probably #2 by on a hill by itself, because IMO, no other year comes close to 2001, but man alive, it doesn't even begin to sniff what 1998 did.

I could have sworn X and KH came out like one right after the other...

I forgot Halo. Still, it's a rather clear 2nd to 1998. Losing KH and trading it for Halo still keeps it at the same number of major created series (2) compared to 6 for 98. And the overall game listing in 1998 is just bigger and more iconic.
