Why do people even ask absolutely stupid questions like this? What is the alternative? Are we supposed to go on a crusade to make everyone overseas think like us? Are we supposed to throw out our own constitution and our freedom to practice the religion of your choice? It's not like Christians are all so great about LGBT stuff either, but we condemn specific people and their statements, not every single practitioner. There are already progressive Muslim movements even in the most oppressive countries that are pro-LGBT, pro-tolerance, etc.--they're certainly a small minority, but they prove that no culture is set in stone or totally uniform.

Like, the speaker here makes some great points, but I don't even understand why people get to the point where they ask these questions in the first place.

There are already progressive Muslim movements even in the most oppressive countries that are pro-LGBT, pro-tolerance, etc.--they're certainly a small minority, but they prove that no culture is set in stone or totally uniform.

Try convincing some of these anti-Muslim Westerners that they exist. Hell, I'm surprised they don't get as much attention. I'd imagine donating towards those causes could help quell a lot of the issues people have with Islam, but I guess it's easier to bitch and whine.

We used to have places where people of similar religions, creeds, beliefs, and ancestry would live together, generally peaceably overall. We called those places "countries".

Poliitics makes strange bedfellows. It wasn't too long ago that African-Americans (being more Christian on average than the rest of the population) widely opposed gay marriage. The black vote was sometimes pointed to as a deciding factor in the prop 8 election in California. But of course, being pro-LGBT and anti-black is no solution.

If this is the vid where she mentions Iran supports gender reassignment surgeries. Then she came under fire for ignoring that they often force it upon gay men, which is atrocious to do. Gender identity does not equate to orientation.

She is not wrong, sadly a lot of people refuse to hang out with muslims due to fear. I am gay and I have muslim friends who know that I am gay that come from countries where they kill gays. I will never support an anti-gay law, but I still think people who believe all muslims are terrorists are moron.
