Not a good game, but had a blast while playing it. That's what matters in the end right?

Excruciatingly boring, with one of the worst combat systems of all time. And a bunch of emo protagonists that were impossible to actually care about.

In my opinion, at least. I got about half way through before I dropped it like a brick for literally any other game I could find. I don't plan on even trying to go back again like I did with FF12 (the only other FF game I have played without finishing for pretty much the exact same reasons).

What is even with FF and their obsession of emo characters anyways? Are they still trying to make everybody Cloud?

I mean, the best FF, FF6, didn't really have an emo. I guess Terra was close, so was Shadow I guess... but he's a ninja, so it's ok.

it's unfinished game in terms of gameplay, story, and characters. it's embarrassing how it's a numbered ff title.

I did love how at one part they were too lazy to make any real dungeon/boss/world design so they turn it in DBZ just to move it along lol

a lot of things happened in the end just coz
it was fun to play the first 7 or do chapters, albeit repetitive
soundtrack was good
definitely feels unfinished
not sure why the ending happened the way it did

Definitely a good game, just not sure I could call it a great one. It had some issues, but most people you'll see on forums like this will blow them up times a thousand.

Then again, this is the same site (and same board especially) that loves to hate on games like Breath of the Wild and Nintendo in general. smh

But the combat was at least an B+ or A-. The story was rather average (C+ to B range). Characters and character development was definitely the highest point, and pacing was a bit all over the place. Bosses were some of the best I've played against in gaming. It's a personal 8.5/10 for me, but I could definitely see people giving it much lower. Removing my personal bias, I'd say it's still an 8/10 level game, which is just under it's metacritic score.

Story is definitely missing a lot of pieces, but characters and gameplay were fine. The gameplay specifically probably wouldn't be any different if the game were "finished." The only character changes I could see would be to explore the antagonists a lot more. It was odd that they gave the antagonists names and unique designs but didn't do much with most of them.

You really think it was being developed for 10 years?

No, they had ~5 years of basic concepts while they were working on other projects, then they began little by little progressing to something that was a lot more concrete. The actual core development process didn't begin until around 2012.

The story had potential becoming one of the best FF stories. Same with the villain, I think the villain is on the top, but I had to read wikis afterwards to get him.

Game feels like 2 games. The open world grindy stuff, and the story, which is all packed in making it rushed when it happens.

The music was disappointing, the good tracks were really good tho, but a lot was mediocre.

Gameplay is enjoyable tho.

Nonsensical melodrama is the easiest to write. It makes characters that are superficially complex and emotional.

It's the reason I hate any game that is 'narrative-driven'. Video game plots are almost always ridiculous garbage. It's just the aspect of gaming. You have to have stupid characters and plot points to justify video game mainstays like NPCs, levels, RPG aspects, etc. I'm not saying some games can't have good stories, but gameplay should always come first and if something is narrative driving but ultimately a shitty gaming experience, don't put it in the game. Games can tell good stories, but it's more the exception than the rule; very few games will ever reach the levels that film and writing have for telling complex, interesting, stories.

Ending was solid, Lunafreyas death scene Was such a waste (could've been done so much better), combat was pretty bad.

I had fun, but it's certainly a low tier final fantasy game.

Solid 7/10. Interactions between the 4 main characters is the games strongest point. The story is very jumpy and will assume you know things or explain things in lines of text you have to find.

Combat is alright but gets repetitive. Side quests are poor. Some of the UI isn't great.

They are adding extra episodes to pad out the story and patches are coming almost monthly. If you're on the fence Might as wel wait and get the full experience later for cheap.
