The job is in San Antonio, and it would be a full time government position. They just put the position on hold, though. Would this be because of the funding dispute going on in Congress right now? I've never had a government job before, but I'm guessing that's at least partially what the issue is.

What kind of government, local, county, state, federal?

Also aren't you in the middle of a proud project with your current job?

If it's local govt then it has nothing to do with Congress.

Federal... And yes, I'm in the middle of a huge project that I'd like to see through to the end. However, according to them in the initial interview I was supposed to be hired on full time after 6 months... 11 months in and they just keep extending my contract. The government job would be a full time position and about $15k more pay.

Cost of living in San Antonio is less than it is in Austin, so I'd be benefiting on multiple fronts assuming I get the job.

More pay
Less living expenses
Full time position
Federal benefits

Then yes it's the congress pissing match holding it up. I dont know if I'd want to work for the feds but it's pretty much a job for life as long as you don't break the law, of course great benefits too. I work for county government and it's great.

Yeah. They might not know if they'll have the funds to hire you, or even if they do, you might end up being told to go home immediately and wait for congress to work out their shit together.

But Austin is such a better city than SA hahaha.

I live in Dallas and just interviewed for a very promising job in Austin. I lived there for a year back in 2013 and I've
Been wanting to go back ever since. DFW is so damn lame.

I do like Austin better than San Antonio, but I also like making more money and paying less for housing, as long as said housing meets my requirements.

Fair. San Antonio isn't too far from Austin so you could still visit from time to time. I had a 1 bedroom in Austin and paid $950 for it back in 2013/14. Looked at that same apartment complex recently and it's now like $1250 for the same apartment :(

If I get the job in Austin I'm gonna have to find somewhere cheaper haha. I saw a bunch of apts off of 360 that were odly cheap. Shouldn't get ahead of myself though lol

Yeah, I'm kinda in a weird spot right now. My lease expires in 30 days, so I have to either renew my lease or give them 60 days notice to vacate... My current rate is about $1300, but if I decide to leave, the rate past 5/25 is over $1700.

I have money saved up and can afford to pay that, but... I'd rather not. So I hope this crap clears up soon and I can make a decision either way.
