For the first time since the Industrial Revolution, England went 24 hours without the use of coal for electricity.

According to the National Grid, the longest amount of time without coal was a 19-hour span of time in May. Then on Friday, it broke the record for the first full day without coal-power.

Britain reportedly hasn’t existed a full day without coal power since the 1882 opening of the Holborn Viaduct in London.

There are currently 16 coal plants left in the UK, all of which will be closed by 2025 in an effort to reduce pollution and harmful emissions.

The historic day comes as a welcome follow-up to a report published in March stating that the levels of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere last year fell to the same amount as 1894 – the year that the first petrol-powered car was patented. The statement reflects the country’s 54% drop in coal use, amounting to only about 381 million tons of dispelled CO2 emissions.

Oh boohoo environment this environment that. The fucking planet has been around 4 million or billion years. Humans are so arrogant to think they can "kill it" buy burning fucking coal. Lol.

But the surface temperature! Yeah? Show me a sample size of what it was in the 1600s and 1700s? Oh you can't cause you can't accurately measure temperatures the same way. You can't compare pre industrial to post industrial. There is no data to do so. So we just assume everything we are doing is making the earth hot. Interesting how it was called global cooling in the 70s. Or how Al gores scare tactics didn't work. Or how it goes from global warming go to climate change. Yeah there's climate change. Whenever the sun wants to get hotter we get hotter.

I know. I'm not a scientist. But when so many predictions they make are wrong or they won't let peer reviews with dissenting opinions out because it just might show other data then that's a warning sign to me.

It's always a warning sign to me no matter what when you don't allow dissenting views or you demonize them. Time after time science has claimed something as true just to prove themselves wrong.

Yeah. All views should be accepted as equally scientifically valid. When the phlogiston theory never gets a fair shake, you know there's something deeply totalitarian about today's world of science.

Interesting how it was called global cooling in the 70s.

See, now, the great thing is that this one little thing destroys the very idea of you having even done research. What you did was you read or listened to anti-climate science sources, saw the TIME magazine cover, and assumed that a magazine reflected the then-scientific consensus. Funny thing, though, it didn't. The majority of papers published at the time concluded the earth was warming.

Also, TIME magazine isn't a scientific authority. That should go without saying, and I know that's where you got "muh 70s cooling" bullshit from.

Or how Al gores scare tactics didn't work.

Not a scientist.

Or how it goes from global warming go to climate change.

Two different things. You don't need to be a scientist to understand these things, just do basic research. Climate change is the result of global warming. The "it changed" narrative doesn't even make any fucking sense. The contention among people who actually believe this drivel is that it changed to "Climate change" some time in the early to mid 2000s even though the IPCC (GUESS WHAT THE CC STANDS FOR LMAO HOLY SHIT) existed since the late 80s.

God damn, you literally have no idea what you're talking about.

Whenever the sun wants to get hotter we get hotter.

Funny thing about that

ykJQyvl

But when so many predictions they make are wrong

Which predictions?

or they won't let peer reviews with dissenting opinions out because it just might show other data then that's a warning sign to me.

Do what now? Peer-reviewed alternatives have been published before. Henrik Svensmark, for example, published a hypotheses on cosmic rays being the cause of warming. The issue is that this and other published alternatives didn't hold up to scrutiny.

Batman out.

While you're out, go to a library, or something. Jesus.

This has always been such a dumb argument.

No one is claiming that climate change will literally blow up the planet. The planet is a rock, it's not a person.

What they are saying when they say "Harm the planet" is making it less habitable for human beins and other living creatures.

When you play Resident Evil do you go "Man everyone's so arrogant to say the T-Virus Biohazard has ruined the mansion/Racoon City. The mansion/City is fine, it's still standing. It's just full of zombies and monsters and the stairs/doors are falling apart and nobody could live in it."

No one is talking about the literal rock.

Don't think protecting the enviroment and looking for alternative sources in the future is wiser than "Go with what is cheaper right now and do not even think about education, R&D or infastructure for the future"?

Don't you want your grandkids to have cheap sustainable electricity?
