Board 8 > So what are the popular multiplayer games on board 8?

Thinking of doing some more online gaming in the future so I wanted to know what games to consider. Never really did it with Board 8ers but I am willing to rectify that. I just dunno what is popular on board 8!

I know Overwatch is definitely one. I'm not super crazy about MOBAs and Fighting Games but I guess I could suck it up and get used to a learning curve

I have a PS4 and a Laptop that can play a good number of games. No Switch yet but maybe within the next month or so if MK8 Deluxe is as good as it looks.

Co-op or Competitive works but I'm probably not that good.

Played LOD to death but I can't see myself going back to it ever again. Path of Exile was ok but I didn't feel that comfortable with it.

Melee is easy to set up with Dolphin, especially if you have a Wii U and already have the adapter and controllers. If you don't, it's still simple.

Path of Exile is really, really good if you're looking for Diablo-like games. it's the only one I would say is comparable to Diablo 2, even above D3. it's also free to play so there's no real risk to try it out.

me and Cata and a few others used to play. I think some people on board 8 still do. I probably wouldn't play it again at this point, I'm just burned out on it and I don't have as much time to sink into an online game.

yeah to expand on Path of Exile a bit, they're adding six new acts (one new, five remixed acts) in the next big update later this year. it's still a game with a lot of life in it. as someone who's played other PC Diablo-ass games like Marvel Heroes, I kinda get envious of the support it has. I've always wanted to try it but for some reason or another always drop it after an hour. The Fall of Oriath has me looking at reinstalling it though.

it being inspired by and similar to D2 is a bit of a drawback in some cases. namely the fact that it's archaic and plays more like a classic PC game than a modern one. lacks some quality of life features. that's one of the reasons I can see people dropping it within the first hour. that can be something that's hard to get past.

but honestly once you do the game opens up and there is so much depth to it. it's one of the best hack and slash games I've played by a pretty huge margin. one of the most awesome things is how the skill tree and gem systems work in combination to give you huge customization and creativity on your builds. almost every single active skill in the game has multiple ways you can modify what it does based on either your skill tree or by linking it with support gems.

basically imagine if the FF7 Materia system and FFX Sphere Grid system were combined but made even more complicated. yeah it's gonna be confusing but once you figure it out there's a bunch of stuff you can do. as a minor example, this is something that's pretty easy to do, my last character used different ice spells but converted all of the damage to fire.
